PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION  #3 of 3

WHAT:  Churches close their doors again
WHERE:  Pacific Auditorium
WHEN:     Sunday May 31st @ 10:30 am
WHO:  LUMA
Contact persons: Pastor Terry Plotz, 271-4414 or Pastor Allen Chaney, 271-3928

Everyone is invited to attend a community wide worship service Sunday May 31st as ten Reedsport churches gather at Pacific Auditorium. The 10:30 am service will feature lots of music from a combined worship team, times of prayer for our city, and a message from Pastor Allen Cheney of Reedsport Church of God.

LUMA is known for its benevolence support for families and its Thanksgiving and Easter services but this event is different. "It is a challenge to get churches to forego their regular services to gather together on a Sunday," states Pastor Terry Plotz, chairman of Reedsport's Lower Umpqua Ministerial Association. "Last year's service brought nearly 400 people together and everyone was thrilled. This year is extra special because our service falls on Pentecost Sunday, the historical day related to the founding of the Christian Church,"

Though there are different worship styles and traditions the churches will be gathering to share their common hope in Jesus Christ. Many area Pastors will be involved in the program; praying, leading readings and helping out where needed.

Following the service, participants will gather in the High School Cafeteria for a massive potluck lunch. "Last years meal was amazing," Pastor Plotz shared. "Church folks make some great food. This will be a great time for the 'Church' in Reedsport to come together!" For more information contact most any church in town or call 271-3928 or 271-4414.

WHAT:  Thank You! From – Renew Reedsport Together Committee
Contact:  Kathleen Miller – 271-2101

On behalf of the Renew Reedsport Together planning committee, I wish to extend a sincere thank you to all the volunteers who came out on Saturday, May 16th to plant marigolds as a part of Reedsport's Oregon 150th Birthday celebration event.

Renew Reedsport Together was made possible through the efforts of local organizations, businesses, and about 75 volunteers who showed up to help in the planting party, which was financed by community donations.

With the assistance of Chamber Ambassadors, the Mayor Keith Tymchuk started off the day with a message of thanks and the planting of the Oregon Celebration Rose at City Hall.  CDABA provided coffee and treats and then volunteers were dispatched with flats of marigolds to multiple planting sites.  The sunny yellow marigolds are already noticeable in various spots around town, and will provide a riot of color and a unifying look to our area as they grow.

The partners of the Renew Reedsport Together event included: City of Reedsport, Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, the Rotary Club of Reedsport, CDABA, Douglas County — Oregon 150, SOLV, and Ocean Breeze Flowers & Gifts.  Groups participating in the planting included members of the partners group as well as the Reedsport Garden Club, the Reedsport Library Board, Three Rivers Rebekah's, Dunes Family Health Care Clinic, the Chamber Ambassadors, and the many individuals and families who came with their kids to help.  Thanks also go to Umpqua Bank, who donated bottles of water for the many volunteers.  Big thanks also go to the community members whose generous donations contributed to the success of the project.

For anyone who wants to purchase the colorful and attractive commemorative t-shirt from the event, they are available for just $10 at Signs Unlimited.  Those wishing to make a tax deductible donation to support other community improvement projects now underway, such as the Library Renovation Project, the Hanging Flower Baskets in Downtown, and the Triangle Improvement Project may mail checks payable to: CDABA-Renew Reedsport Together, and forward to Kathleen Miller, P0 Box 5, Reedsport, OR 97467.

Hello everyone - Well can you believe that another year has passed and we are FINALLY moving into the tourist season?  I predict that it will be OH so good this year.  My sources tell me that people are TRAVELING OREGON and that is a very good thing!

So - to get ready for the "crowds" and to also beautify the Old Towne area, the Old Towne Reedsport Merchant Association is again holding its Annual Flower Basket Planting and Fund Raiser.  This is our second year and we will be planting the baskets on Saturday, May 16th from 9 to 5 pm.  The very large and beautiful baskets will hang from the Old Towne light poles and this year we have two additional baskets to hang.  (Sugar Shack is coming onboard to help display baskets.)  We will hang as many baskets as donations allow.  There will also be plants for sale.  Sales from plants will go back into purchase of more plants.  The place is the same as last year, in Old Towne at 532 Fir Ave.  (The recently acquired property of Bill & Mikayle Karcher.) If any of you are interested in coming down and planting with us, we could really use the help and welcome the chance to get to know you a little better.  There is NOTHING like getting your hands dirty together to build relationships!  There will be a Fund Raising letter go out this week too.  So, if you can help in any way, we would really appreciate it.  For more information, you can call me at (541) 271-3044.  Thanks - Kathi Wall-Meyer
