First Friday to feature Chris Larson
Chris Larson will be next month's featured artist at CDABA's First Friday . . . Art for Everyone. The event will be held at the Reedsport Natural Foods store, 1891 Winchester Avenue (Highway 101), Reedsport, OR on February 3, 2011 between 5 pm and 7 pm.
Chris Larson will display his Scrollsaw Art. Chris grew up the son of a woodcarving cabinet maker, who taught him how to use wood tools. He has always had a love for the different species of wood, their colors and grain patterns. Woodcarving has been Chris' art medium for many years. He has sold his art in shops in Eureka, California and Bend, Oregon.
In the past few years he began looking for something new and inspirational and discovered scrollsaw and fretwork designs and was drawn to their intricacy. Chris enjoys the play of shadows and light and seeing each piece develop into something on the saw table. Chris said "things you can do in this medium are endless." He believes that it is good for everyone to have something creative to do, no matter what skill level. To quote Chris: "In the end you have something you have created with your hands and mind."
This is a FREE EVENT. CDABA sponsors the First Friday art events at different locations. Future dates will be March 2nd (canceled due to St. Patrick's Day fundraiser on Saturday, March 17th), April 6th (Reedsport Natural Food store-RCCS students), May 4th (location TBA), June 1st (Reedsport Natural Food store-Artist Kathleen Olson), July 6th-Rusty Frog, August 3rd (Reedsport Natural Food store Artist-Annie Rains, fabric art dolls), September XX (Winchester Bay Community Center-Art Auction), October 5th (Reedsport Natural Food store-Artist-TBA, November 2nd (location TBA), and December 7th (Anniversary Celebration).
