The Thunderwater 3000 is a canned food drive hosted by the crew of the Coast Guard Station in Winchester Bay. Coasties earn canned food items from the community by running, biking or swimming one mile for every canned food item donated, attempting to earn the total of 3000 cans and miles by November 15th. All donations will go to support the local Reedsport/Douglas County Food Bank, in hopes of improving the holiday season for the community. Donations may be dropped off at Coast Guard Station Umpqua River in Winchester Bay, or call the Coast Guard station for a list of local donation sites, as well as a list of acceptable items.

Coastal Conservation Associates is a non-profit national marine conservation organization working to save salmon and steelhead spawning grounds on the West Coast. The fight is against industrial netters on the Columbia River who catch a large percentage of the fish before they reach their spawning grounds. "Cycle Oregon delivers the best combination of scenery, challenge, amenities, camaraderie and philanthropy of any ride out there. A fun-loving mix of back-road riding and two-wheeled tent revival, our event moves from town to town with 2,000 or more riders enjoying generous hospitality and providing direct financial benefits to our host towns as well as cycling-related causes throughout Oregon." "And it's a new route, and a new experience, every year!"
And this year, Cycle Oregon is coming our way on September 12, 2011. That is NEXT MONTH! In order to provide the riders and their family and support people with a friendly interesting offering of what Reedsport has to offer them, the Old Towne Reedsport Merchant Association is organizing a Community Marketplace. This is a sampling of our retail businesses with items for sale, etc. Small independent and non-profits are welcome as well as food vendors! So, get your thinking caps on and think of something that these people just can't live without!
If you are interested in being part of this event and setting up your own little store, please contact Kathi Wall-Meyer @ 541- 221-5729 or (541) 271-3044 for an application and to get answers to any questions you may have. It is FREE to participate but you must supply your own tables and coverings. You will get an 8' x 10' space. No electricity is available. All food vendors must carry their own appropriate licenses and insurance.
Alternate contact is Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce - Robin Dollar. Hurry, we only have 30 openings. Don't let this opportunity get away!
