PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION

WHAT:  coastal representative sought for Planning Commission
WHERE:  Douglas County
WHEN:    Deadline July 18, 2011
WHO:  The Board of Commissioners
Contact: (541) 440-4289
The Board of Commissioners is seeking a coastal representative to serve on the Planning Commission. Geographic diversity is an important factor in the selection of members to the Planning Commission. The current coastal representative is leaving the Commission. The Board of Commissioners is soliciting applications from the coastal area to fill the remainder of vacant term which is scheduled to expire on February 28, 2013. Occupation diversity is also another important factor that will be considered in the appointment process.

The Planning Commission is an important advisory group. Members participate in the land use process at the local government level and serve as a valuable link between local land use regulations and individual property owners in the County.

The Planning Commission reviews policy, hears appeals on land use matters, and recommends new or amended provisions of the Comprehensive Plan or Land Use and Development Ordinance. The Planning Commission meets regularly on Thursday's (1st and 3rd). The Commission meets on an average of 18 times per year. Meetings are generally in the evening or afternoon.

Persons interested in serving on the Commission should submit their applications to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners or Planning Department by July 18, 2011. Applications may be obtained through the Board of Commissioners or the Planning Department. Further information about the Planning Commission position or planning program may be obtained from Cheryl Goodhue or Keith L. Cubic at the Douglas County Planning Department, Room 106, Justice Building, Douglas County Courthouse, Roseburg, (541) 440-4289 or coastal planner Jonathan Wright during coastal office hours 10:00 - 2:00 on July 13, 2011. Interested citizens are encouraged to apply.
