Next month, the Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra (OCCO) will commence rehearsals for its tenth season of bringing live performances to communities of the Oregon coastal strip. The fall program will feature musical offerings from both operas and operettas. Concerts are scheduled for 7 P.M. on December 3 in Yachats, and 2 P.M. matinees on December 5 in Florence and December 12 in Reedsport. Tickets for these concerts will go on sale at local outlets in October.

The orchestra still has a few openings to fill its complement of 35 musicians. If you play French horn, trumpet, bassoon or violin and would like to audition for this fine regional ensemble, contact the website, WWW.OCCO.WS or call Robin DeVour, Music Director, at 541-997-6770.

The monthly meeting for Caregivers is scheduled this Friday at 10:30am.  If you or a friend is caring for a patient of Alzheimer's , Dementia, or any long term illness this group is for you.  We have a short program then spend some time talking over the issues that surround our task.  Please invite anyone you think would benefit from this group.

Do you get nervous when speaking? Want to polish your speaking skills? Then Toastmasters might be just what you need!The Reedsport Coast Toasties are hosting an open house on Tuesday, September 14th at 7:00 p.m. Great refreshments will be served. Come by and see what Toastmasters is all about.

You move at your own speed never having to speak until you are ready. It's a wonderful supportive group and  fun experience. Meetings are held in the District Building 100 Ranch Rd. Unable to attend but want more information?  Contact Sandra Reese 541 271-5481.

Guided Lighthouse Tour fees:
Adults, $3
Students ages 6 -16, $2
Children ages 3 – 5, Free
The beautiful craftsmanship of the 1890 First Order Fresnel Lens is experienced by entering the "heart" of the Umpqua River Lighthouse. At night, with the beauty of the red and white beams dancing off the forest is surreal.  You'll learn all about the first lighthouse in the Oregon Territory and the role it played in the rich maritime history and the cultural heritage of the lower Umpqua region.
All Night Tours of the Lighthouse are guided tours and tickets are required. Bring your own flashlight, wear warm clothes and enjoy the unique experience of the beautiful beams of light from the historic lens at night. Tours depart from the Museum Lobby at 7:15 pm, 7:45 pm, 8:15 pm and 8:45 pm. Tour capacity is limited to 10 people and the tours fill up fast! Reservations can be called in, but tickets will only be held for 24 hours.
NOTE: The September 11th, 8:15 pm tour is already filled to capacity as all 10 tickets have been purchased.
To get your ticket for a Lighthouse Night Tour, stop in at the Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum, 1020 Lighthouse Road, Winchester Bay.  The Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum is open DAILY from 10 am – 4pm. Or call 541-271-1894.  While you're there, visit the Museum! Admission to the Museum is FREE and donations are always appreciated.

To accommodate the Lighthouse Night Tours, the Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum and its Gift Store will be open from 6:45 pm – 9:30 pm on Saturday, Sept. 11th and Saturday, Sept 18th. Admission to the Museum and Gift Store is free.

What:      Annual Open House
Where:    2680 Frontage Road, (Station 2)

Sponsor: Reedsport Volunteer Fire Department

 The Reedsport Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting its annual Open House on Saturday, September 25th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Station 2, 2680 Frontage Road. The community is invited to stop by and take a tour of the Fire Station, ride in a fire truck and meet your local firefighters. All other equipment will be on display.  Free hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone.
There will be a "Jaws of Life" demonstration at noon. Firefighters will also demonstrate repelling techniques at various times during the event.
We will be accepting donations to be used to fund the purchase of a thermal imaging camera which will be on display. This specialized piece of equipment will greatly enhance our search and rescue capabilities, lessen property damage during overhaul operations, and perform other lifesaving duties.
Also on display will be a 1998 Pierce fire truck that we have recently purchased that has replaced one of our older fire trucks.
Funding through a Douglas County grant has been utilized to purchase a communication facility behind the Fire Station. Specialized communication equipment has been installed inside giving local, county, state and federal emergency agencies the ability to communicate during a major emergency or disaster. Feel free to tour this new facility.

What:  Oktoberfest Trivia Challenge
 When: Wednesday, October 6th, 2010
 Where: Reedsport Public Library is the starting point.  5 downtown pubs will be participating: The Landing, The Waterfront, Tides Inn, Eagles Lodge and Moose Lodge. 
Hold on to your Lederhosen!  There is another fun Trivia contest scheduled in order to raise money for the Reedsport Branch Library Renovation.  Teams of 4 or more can register to participate and registration is open until 5 pm on the night of the event.  The registration fee is $25 for the team of 4 and $5 for every team member above that. (An unlimited number of people may participate on a team.)  Pick up your registration forms at Mindpower Gallery or by contacting Jennifer Tymchuk at (541) 271-4670.  Team members will meet at the Library on October 6th at 5 pm to receive their answer sheets, rules and first stop assignments.  Each team will move from pub to pub answering questions with everyone meeting at the Eagles at 8 pm for the announcement of winners. Each pub will have meal specials that will be made especially for the contest, so plan to eat your meal at one of the establishments.  We are looking forward to another wonderful turnout and a fun night with friends, all for a great cause!
