On September 24 and 25 there will be a 116th birthday celebration of the Umpqua River Lighthouse in Winchester Bay. This event is designed to raise the public consciousness about the lighthouse and its historical and cultural importance to the area. There will be tours, plein art, lighthouse memorabilia and family activities.
On Saturday, there will be symposium speakers all day on the history of the lighthouse, the Fresnel Lens, and the Coast Guard presence in Winchester Bay. Saturday evening there will be a buffet dinner at the Winchester Bay Community Center beginning at 5:30. Featured speaker will be Jimi Woodward, a nationally know expert on the Fresnel Lens. Silent auction items will also be available.

Featured Artists: Cheryl LeVesque - Painter
Cheryl LeVesque, a local painter, will be the featured artist at the Artist Showcase this month. Cheryl's explains her art philosophy as "an effort and challenge, not to describe something but to express it." Some of Cheryl's notable work includes researching for the "Save Outdoor Sculpture" survey and volunteering at the Reedsport Branch Library. Cheryl's work has been sold in both Oregon and California. She is a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon. Join us on Friday, you won't want to miss these beautiful paintings!
Artist Showcases are held at Reedsport Natural Food Store on the third Friday of the month. Future dates are October 15th (Fred Van Wert), November 19th, and December 17th
CDABA also sponsors a First Friday art event at a different location each month. Call for Entries: New & Secondary Art Auction
CDABA is hosting an Art Auction at its First Friday . . . Art is for Everyone event in Winchester Bay on Friday October 1, 2010. The event will be held at the Winchester Bay Community Center. Artists and Collectors are invited to enter pieces of art into the Auction. There is a limit of two pieces per person. The Auction is limited to 50 pieces. First come, first registered. Fees and Commission: $5.00 non-refundable registration fee per item and 20% commission on artwork sold. The $5.00 entry fee is due with the delivery of artwork to be auctioned. The entry fee for artwork sold will be deducted from the 20% commission charged (minimum commission - $5.00).
Items for sale must be delivered on the pre-registration date. All unsold art must be picked up immediately following the auction. Buyers must take possession of sold art at time of sale.

DEADLINE APPROACHING
The deadline to apply to participate in the Rotary Club of Reedsport's talent show is fast approaching --- the deadline is October 1, 2010. The Coastal Douglas Has Talent!—talent show—will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 6 p.m. Applications to audition to perform in the talent show are available at locations around Reedsport, including KDUN Radio Station, Copy Cat, Bank of America, Oregon First Community Credit Union, Reedsport Coffeehouse, and Umpqua Bank. All types of talent are eligible to audition. The event is open to both adults and children. Cash prizes will be awarded. Applications must be received by October 1st.
Sponsorships are also being accepted. The deadline to sponsor the Talent Show---and get your name in the event program—is October 14th.
The Talent Show is a fundraising event for the Rotary Club of Reedsport and will support its community and service projects. The event will be held at 6 p.m. at the Pacific Auditorium, 2260 Longwood Drive, Reedsport, Oregon.
