Proceeds from the carnation sale go directly to scholarship monies to at least one local high school senior in addition to many local young women who have won state scholarships from P.E.O.

The top three selling fiction books on Amazon.com and the NY Times list are the amazing trilogy by Stieg Larsson: a Swedish investigative reporter and an intriguing girl of a protégé. Forty translations, and forty million copies have been sold of "The Girl with the Dragoon Tattoo." This version of the movie is in Swedish with English subtitles and will be shown at the Reedsport Coffeehouse on Thursday, August 26 at 6:00pm.

The Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra (OCCO). is about to begin preparations for its tenth season of bringing live music to coastal communities. The group, which rehearses in Florence on Sunday afternoons, currently performs nine concerts each year, three in early December, three in late February and three in early May.
OCCO presently has openings for musicians who play the following: flute doubling piccolo, French horn, trumpet and violin. Membership in the ensemble is by audition.

Bill Karcher joins Tim Fitzgerald as a featured artist at this month's Artist Showcase. Bill is well known in the community for his Raku ceramics, particularly of fish. During this event, he will showcase his ceramic vases. The vases are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces and come in different shapes and sizes.
Tim, a driftwood artist, will feature a variety of pieces. Tim's collection will feature nature-based sculpture incorporating driftwood from local beaches, copper and found objects.
Artist Showcases are held at Reedsport Natural Food Store on the third Friday of the month. Future dates are September 17th (Cheryl LeVesque), October 15th (Skip Seay), November 19th, and December 17th
CDABA also sponsors a First Friday art event at a different location each month. Future dates are: September 3rd (Mindpower Gallery, featuring jewelry artists), October 1st (Winchester Bay Community Center, featuring an art auction of commissioned pieces of art), November 5th (Lower Umpqua Hospital, featuring the Kenagy family artists), December 3rd (Coastal Ceramics/Ocean Breeze-1st Anniversary event) and January 8th (note date change—Mindpower Gallery/2nd Annual Photography Contest).
