To celebrate the Christmas season, the Hispanic Ministries of St. Monica Catholic Church in Coos Bay is sponsoring a Mariachi Mass and fiesta this Saturday. The music will be provided by Mariachi Viva Mexico. This group is billed as the premier Mariachi in the northwest and was founded by Humberto Guillen in 1974. In 2003, Mariachi Viva Mexico created the music for Nike's "Training Day" commercial. http://www.mariachivivamexico.com/

Following the Rosary and Mass, there will be a fiesta in the Parish Hall, including a dinner featuring tamales and posole, a hearty pork-and-hominy stew, which are traditional Christmas dishes in Hispanic communities. Spaghetti will also be available. Cost of the event is by donation.

Also, a collection of nacimientos (nativity sets) from Spanish-speaking foreign countries will be on display during the fiesta. These were collected by Tim and Janet Fitzgerald of Reedsport during their travels, and feature sets from several out-of-the way locales in Mexico, as well as Guatemala and Cuba.

Fountaineers sought for 2010.

Keeping the lights on and the water flowing at Reedsport's Confluence Fountain is made possible by the generous donations from members of the community.  Coastal Douglas Arts & Business Alliance (CDABA), the local nonprofit who oversees the fountain, is conducting its annual drive to raise the funds needed to maintain the fountain.  Although donations in any amount are encouraged, those community members who donate $100 or more become known as "Fountaineers."

CDABA is a 501(c)(3), non-profit corporation and your donation is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.  If you would like to make a donation, make your check payable to CDABA and mail it to PO Box 5, Reedsport, OR  97467.  CDABA's federal identification number is 93-1282012.

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION #9 of 9

Are you interested in becoming a Confluence Sponsor for as little as $150? Sponsors for events like this one helps pay the operating costs for these events. Confluence is an award winning event with advertising links on the web, radio, TV and through media like this one. You don't have to be a business either; individuals can also be sponsors for as little as $150. How about getting 15 friends together for $10 each and being a group sponsor?

It is not everyday that our area gets the opportunity to listen to a variety of live music from the Pacific Northwest like the line up this year. This year Confluence welcomes to the event "Wild Horse Theatre," aka The Speaks Brothers, back from Las Vegas. Help support music on the beautiful Oregon Coast while enjoying seafood and tasting of Oregon Wines and Brews.

Events such as this one, helps bring visitors to our area that in turn visit and spend money at our businesses. This helps keep our neighbors, friends and families employed in retail by bringing tourism dollars to our struggling coastal economy. Confluence 2010 kicks off its event on Friday during Valentine's Day and President's Day Weekend with the return of the "Wine Taster's Dinner." Any questions, feel free to visit http://reedsportcc.org for more information and follow the Confluence link.
