Renew Reedsport Together is Looking for Volunteers
 The Renew Reedsport Together project is looking for volunteers and teams of  volunteers.  Think about the fun you will have when you get your  co-workers, family, or friends (or all three) together for an uplifting morning  of celebration on Saturday, May 16, 2009.  Volunteers are being sought for  the purpose of joining together for the Opening Ceremonies to be held at City  Hall starting at 9 a.m. and then to be dispatched with flats of marigolds for  planting.  Each volunteer or team of volunteers will be given a set number  of marigolds and a designated location to plant them.  
 There will also be the opportunity to help the Great Garden (located next  to Highland Elementary) celebrate Oregon's 150th Birthday with a community  beautification project of its own.  Also on May 16th the Great Garden will  be conducting a garden clean-up event in order to get it ready for the  season.  If, when you are finished planting your marigolds, you wish to  continue putting forth community service you can join others at the Great  Garden.
 Financial support is still being accepted.  Tax deductible donations  are being accepted to help support this non-profit project, as well as other  community improvement projects now underwaysuch as the Library Renovation  Project, Highway 38 beautification projects, Highway 101 beautification  projects, and others.  
 The partners for this local Oregon Sesquicentennial event are City of  Reedsport, the Reedsport / Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club of  Reedsport, the Rotary Club of Reedsport, CDABA, and Ocean Breeze Flowers &  Gifts.  Contact Kathleen Miller at 271-2101 about becoming a partner.

Rotarians at Work
The Rotary Club of Reedsport will be participating in the international Rotarians at Work Day by conducting a Recycling Event in Reedsport on Saturday, April 18, 2009, from 9 a.m. to Noon. In partnership with the Les Schwab Tire Center and Next Generation Recycle, from Roseburg, local Rotarians can be found working in their community by collecting all types of electronics and small home appliances for recycling.
 The Rotary Club of Reedsport will be participating in the international Rotarians at Work Day by conducting a Recycling Event in Reedsport on Saturday, April 18, 2009, from 9 a.m. to Noon. In partnership with the Les Schwab Tire Center and Next Generation Recycle, from Roseburg, local Rotarians can be found working in their community by collecting all types of electronics and small home appliances for recycling.
What will be recycled  "Anything that plugs into the wall or runs on  batteries, including batteries themselves" says Jake from Next Generation  Recycle.  What can not be recycled will be large kitchen  appliancesrefrigerators, freezers, stoves, dishwashers.  The community  will be invited to bring TV, Microwaves, Computers (anything related to  computers--keyboards, mice, scanners), small home appliances, and home stereo  equipment for recycling to the Les Schwab parking lot at 16th and Highway 101 in  Reedsport.  
 The Rotarians will also be recycling cell phones (and all their  components).  So, if you have a cell phone that you would like to recycle,  bring it along with all of its components, such as wall chargers and car  chargers.

Progress was made at the Christmas In July meeting on Tuesday March 31 with many new volunteers in attendance who were welcomed by the committee. Chairman Allen Chaney put forward for comment several referrals from homeowners in need of help with repairs. A request for help with an emergency plumbing problem was received and the repairs were made.
Funds from various sources were announced which added to the enthusiasm for a successful year toward reaching our Mission Goals as outlined on the website. http://cij.weebly.com/
