WHAT:  Renew Reedsport Together -  Oregon 150th Birthday Celebration
WHERE:  starting at Reedsport City Hall.
WHEN:  Saturday, May 16, 2009, starting at 9 a.m.
Contact: Kathleen Miller at 271-2101

The community wide project is being called Renew Reedsport Together and will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2009, starting at 9 a.m. at Reedsport City Hall.

Communities throughout the State of Oregon are coming together on Saturday, May 16th to celebrate Oregon .  The day will start with a ribbon cutting ceremony at City Hall, which will include the planting of the "Oregon Celebration" rose, a special rose making its debut this year to mark Oregon's 150th anniversary of statehood.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, volunteers will be dispatched with flats of bright yellow marigolds to be planted throughout the community in public spaces.  The planting of these marigolds will be a symbol of a united community and will renew the landscape throughout the community.  This project is not limited to just Reedsport.  Depending on the number of volunteers, this planting is to be done throughout the communities of Reedsport, Winchester Bay and Gardiner---and any other community that wishes to participate.  Private businesses and citizens who also wish to plant marigolds are encouraged to inquire into making a special purchase of the marigolds.  All orders for marigolds need to be placed by April 10, 2009.

Financial support and individual volunteers are being sought for the May 16th Renew Reedsport Together project.  Tax deductible donations are being accepted to help support this non-profit project, as well as other community improvement projects now underway—such as the Library Renovation Project, Highway 38 beautification projects, Highway 101 beautification projects, and others.

Donation and Volunteer registration forms are available from City Hall and the Chamber's office.  Get your volunteer teams together and register today.  You may contact Deanna Schaefer, City of Reedsport (271-3603) or Robin Dollar, Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce (271-3495) for more information.

The Renew Reedsport Together project has gained more partners.  The Lions Club of Reedsport and Ocean Breeze Flowers & Gifts have joined the City of Reedsport, the Reedsport / Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Reedsport, and CDABA to help celebrate Oregon's 150th Birthday with a community wide beautification project.  Additional partners are welcome to join this team and to become a part of this very exciting community project.  Contact Kathleen Miller at 271-2101 about becoming a partner.
