WHEN:     Sunday, May 3 at 2 P.M.
WHO:  Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra (OCCO)
Contact:  WWW.OCCO.WS , or call OCCO at 541-997-6770

This week will be the last opportunity to purchase specially-priced tickets for the Spring Pops concert of the Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra (OCCO). The Reedsport program, which closes OCCO'S eighth season, will be a matinee on Sunday, May 3 at 2 P.M. at the Pacific Auditorium of Reedsport High School. A single Early Bird ticket ($5.00) will admit two persons to the event. Tickets are on sale through Friday at the Reedsport branch of Umpqua Bank or the Reedsport-Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce. Full-price tickets may also be purchased at the door on the afternoon of the concert.

Under the leadership of Steve Conaton, Robin DeVour and John Dodge, music of four composers constitutes the first half of the concert. A group of selections by Australian, Percy Grainger, starts things off. Jerome Moross' "Lazy Afternoon" from his musical, "The golden apple" features conductor Dodge as French horn soloist. Dodge will then direct OCCO in a beguine version of Nacio Herb Brown's "Temptation" and three new originals by Florence composer and arranger, Charles Perkins.

In the second half of the program the music of an American popular songsmith will be showcased. Vocalists Denise Dee and Bill Dietrich will be featured in "From the Jimmy VanHeusen songbook." The orchestra, led by Conaton, as well as a jazz combo, with soloists Andy Kam and Kai Sandoval plus a rhythm section of DeVour, Ken mace and Mike Swain, will provide accompaniment for the singers.

To get more information about this event, visit the orchestra's website, WWW.OCCO.WS , or call OCCO at 541-997-6770.

Are you planning to volunteer?

The Renew Reedsport Together project is still looking for donations and volunteers.  If you are planning to volunteer on Saturday morning, May 16th, to help your community---please submit your volunteer registration form or call the Chamber office at 271-3495.  It is important that we have a count of the number of volunteers that will be gathering to plant the marigolds---so that we can pre-assign locations.  Please call if you would like to volunteer, but are concerned about your ability to do any planting---we have plenty of other tasks that we need assistance with.

Opening Ceremonies will be held at City Hall starting at 9 a.m.   There will be an uplifting message from Keith Tymchuk, our City's Mayor; coffee and treats, and then the volunteers will be dispatched with flats of marigolds for planting.  Each volunteer or team of volunteers will be given a set number of marigolds and a designated location to plant them.

Financial support and individual volunteers are being sought for the May 16th Renew Reedsport Together project.  Tax deductible donations are being accepted to help support this non-profit project, as well as other community improvement projects now underway—such as the Library Renovation Project, Highway 38 beautification projects, Highway 101 beautification projects, and others.

Donation and Volunteer registration forms are available from City Hall and the Chamber's office.  Get your volunteer teams together and register today.  You may contact Deanna Schaefer, City of Reedsport (271-3603) or Robin Dollar, Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce (271-3495) for more information.
