Renew Reedsport Together!
The City of Reedsport adopted the Proclamation recognizing 2009 as a year of celebration of Oregon's sesquicentennial. The City of Reedsport, the Reedsport Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Reedsport, CDABA and others are joining together in a celebration on Saturday, May 16, 2009, for a community project being called "Renew Reedsport Together."
Communities throughout the State of Oregon are coming together on Saturday, May 16th to celebrate Oregon and its communities. Volunteers are being sought for the May 16th "Renew Reedsport Together" project. The day will start with a ribbon cutting ceremony at City Hall, which will include the planting of the "Oregon Celebration" rose, a special rose making its debut this year to mark Oregon's 150th anniversary of statehood.
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, volunteers will be dispatched with flats of bright yellow marigolds to be planted throughout the community in public spaces. The planting of these marigolds will be a symbol of a united community and will renew the landscape throughout the community. Depending on the number of volunteers, this planting is to be done throughout the communities of Reedsport, Winchester Bay and Gardiner---and any other community that wishes to participate. Private businesses and citizens who also wish to do the planting should inquire into making a special purchase of the marigolds.
Tax deductible donations are being accepted to help support this non-profit project, as well as other community improvement projects now underwaysuch as the Library Renovation Project, the Hanging Flower Baskets in Old Downtown, the Triangle Improvement Project, and others.
Get your volunteer teams together and stay tuned for more detailed information to come.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all your Irish out there (and aren't we ALL Irish on St. Patrick's day?).
But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing, has nothing, is nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn, feel, change, grow, love...live. Chained by his certitudes, he is a slave; he has forfeited his freedom. -- unknown
