First Friday to feature Reno Stone of Lost Beach Dezigns
First Friday . . . Art for Everyone event on Friday, June 7, 2013, between 5-7 pm will feature Reno Stone, proprietor of Lost Beach Dezigns located on Highway 38 in old downtown Reedsport (next to A&G Imports).  Reno will showcase his etchings, a painting, a book, and samples of his commercial art.  If you are not familiar with Reno's studio, you may be familiar with his voice—he is the newest co-host on Tradio (weekdays 7-9 am on K-dune 1030 AM radio).
Just a few of Reno's accomplishments include designing the Super Bowl halftime show/pirate flags in 1984, a silk center piece (8'x12') to accompany Hillary Clinton to a Women's Conference in Beijing, China, and labels for Baletore Wines.  Reno has a wide variety of experience including working on movies and illustrating books.  Some of Reno's commercial accounts include:  Apple Hill, Inc., Honda Motorcycles, Harley Davidson Motorcycles, Kirker Pipes, Jelly Belly Inc., Reno air Races, Hangtown Motocross, Pac-10 Rowing, MIX96 Radio (Sacramento), and collegiate bookstores and promotions from Humboldt State to Pepperdine University.
The event will be hosted by Greg Viert and Patsy Sichley, the new owners of the Reedsport Natural Foods store.  The store is located at 1891 Winchester Avenue (Hwy 101), Reedsport, OR  97467.

May 18th - Art Class – the last art class scheduled for this spring will be a Beginning Watercolor Class with Beebe Slater.  This popular class from last fall will be held at at 1 pm at Coastal Ceramics, 159 So. 20th, Reedsport, OR.  Just $25 – includes the class and all materials.  Call Theresa Chickering at (541) 271-4608 to register or for more information.  [Note – sign up early – this class is subject to being canceled if there are not enough participants.]
May 21st – 5:30 pm - Monthly meeting of CDABA at the Coastal Ceramics, 159 So. 20th, Reedsport, OR  97467.  The agenda will include status updates of various projects and ongoing planning for CDABA's community activities.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
June 14th - 15th – annual Art Walk in old downtown Reedsport.  Artists and crafters who wish to sign up for free space on the sidewalk during Art Walk should email Kathleen Miller at kkmiller@reedsportlaw.com or call Chris Adamson at (541) 271-0313 to learn more.  This event will also include a free Kids' Craft Corner on Saturday, June 15th from 10 am to Noon.
July 12th  [note date change] – 5-7 pm – First Friday will be hosted by the Myrtlewood Gallery, 1125 Highway Avenue (Hwy 101), Reedsport, OR  97467.
August 2nd – 5-7 pm – First Friday - featured artist - Dave Teachout, stained glass at Reedsport Natural Foods store, 1891 Winchester Avenue (Hwy 101), Reedsport, OR  97467.
September First Friday – will be held in conjunction with Art by the Bay, Winchester Bay, OR (August 31st and September 1st).  This event will also include a free Kids' Craft Corner.
October 4th - 5-7 pm – First Friday - featured artist – Connie Sayler, fiber art.  Location TBA.
October 26th – annual CDABA GALA Fundraiser – an adult evening full of costumes, fun, and whimsy.  Mark your calendars now and save the date!  To sponsor the event or to learn how you can participate, email Tamara Szalweski at tamara@mindpowergallery.com.
November 1st – 5-7 pm – First Friday – featured artists – Bill Blumber – wood at the Lower Umpqua Hospital, 600 Ranch Road, Reedsport, OR  97467
December First Friday – December 6th – 7th - look for the annual Holiday Bazaar to be held at the Reedsport Community Center, 451 Winchester Avenue, Reedsport, OR 97467.  For more information how to participate in the Holiday Bazaar, contact Theresa Chickering at tjckickering@yahoo.com.
December – Make N' Take – as a part of CDABA's outreach to kids this year – its final Kids' Craft Corner for 2013 will take place during the annual Highland Elementary Make N' Take program---look for us there.

Scholastic Book Fair is at Reedsport Community Charter School, on school days from today through May 22.  For daytime visiting hours, please call Valerie Tisler at 541-271-2141 Ext. 525.  There will be an Open House on Thursday, May 16, from 4:30-6:30, prior to the W. F Jewett Poetry Recitation.  Please join us and if you don't have children, neighbors or grandchildren to purchase books for, buy one from a student's wish list.  Our goal is to send home at least one book for summer reading with every student grades 7-9.  We need your help!  Valerie Tisler <VTisler@reedsport.k12.or.us>

PHOTO CONTEST DEADLINE MAY 31

This year marks the final amateur photography contest featuring images of coastal Douglas County.  The boundaries are Scottsburg, Winchester Bay, Tachenitch and Tugman State Parks.  20 images will be selected and published along with the winners of the three previous contests in a special Coastal Douglas Photo Journal.  Contestants  are invited to submit photos in the following categories:  storms, lighthouse, elk, wildlife close-ups, fishing, crabbing, parades & festivals, arts & crafts activities/classes, dunes, gardens, fundraisers, holidays, hunting, sports and there is a special category for youth 17 and under. 
Contest rules are available at the Reedsport Library and the Mindpower Gallery and online at
The gallery will host a reception featuring all the photo entries June 14 from 4 to 8pm.  During that evening the winners will be announced.  Those who attend the reception can vote for their favorite images.  There will be opportunities for people to buy photos they want for their homes.
