Bedrocks to Host "KDUN Love"
Date: Tuesday May 14th All day long
Where: Bedrocks Restaurants
Date: Tuesday May 14th All day long
Where: Bedrocks Restaurants
On Tuesday May 14th Bedrocks Restaurants will be hosting a "KDUN Love" Day where 100% of all sales will be given to the local radio station that recently lost one of its owners, Kent Abendroth to Lung Cancer. Radio Station KDUN has been serving our community for many years and both Kent and his surviving spouse Sandy have been very active in the community over the years. Bedrocks encourages everyone to come out for a meal that day and guest books will be at each location for customers to sign and share their stories and fond memories of Kent. Bedrocks owners Mark and Karen Bedard understand the importance of small business and community service and would like to "pay it forward" for a fellow small business. Kent was also a Naval Veteran who served in the Vietnam War. Mark's deceased father Don Bedard, whom the restaurants are named after, also died of Lung Cancer and served in the Navy. Give your thanks to Sandy and her family at this time and show some KDUN love.

National Letter Carriers Food Drive set for May 11!
Help stamp out hunger on the South Coast this May with the National Association of Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive, the largest one-day food drive in the world! You simply place your bag of nonperishable food donations by your mailbox on the morning of Saturday, May 11, and the rest is taken care of!
This is the one day of the year that all Americans have the opportunity with the help of letter carriers to easily donate food to help keep families in our community fed. Simply look for a yellow plastic food drive bag in your mail (or provide your own), fill it with nutritious, nonperishable food, and place it by your mailbox early on Saturday, May 11. If you miss your carrier's daily visit, donations can be dropped off at any post office by Wednesday, May 15.
The "Stamp Out Hunger" effort is the largest single-day food drive in the world, and has collected more than one billion pounds of food nationally since its inception in 1993. In Oregon, more than 4,000 letter carriers in urban and rural areas will join the national effort to pick up food from postal customers.
All donated food stays in the community where it was collected. Post offices in Coos and Curry Counties, including those in Coos Bay, North Bend, Coquille, Myrtle Point, Powers, Bandon, Gold Beach, Langlois, Sixes, Port Orford, and Brookings, have paired up with agencies in the South Coast Food Share Network and other community partners to get food out to those who need it. Last year, the communities of the South Coast donated over 26,000 pounds of food, and this year food drive organizers hope to collect 30,000!
The NALC food drive is made possible by local letter carriers, the U.S. Postal Service, Wells Fargo, Oregon Food Bank, and many Oregon unions and community organizations. Wells Fargo's support helped fund the biodegradable bags and more than 600 Wells Fargo employees will volunteer for this event at more than 40 locations throughout the state.
South Coast Food Share is a program of Oregon Coast Community Action, a non-profit network of programs that help feed, house, warm and educate the communities of the South Coast, and help families thrive. For more information, please call (541) 435-7754 or learn more at www.orcca.us.
