High Seas is the theme for this years VBS (Vacation Bible School) at the Covenant Methodist Church starting Monday, July 26 and ending Friday, July 30th. 
 
Early registration begins Saturday from 9 am to noon or you may register at the door Monday morning at 8:30 a.m..
 
A team of volunteers from Arlington and Wasco churches on the Colombia River area will help us put on an outstanding VBS.  The team will decorate the church with the Theme "High Seas".  Please call Linda McCrosky at (541) 990-5321 if you are planning on attending. 
 
The program is for grades 1st thru 5th and runs from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, July 26 thru 30. Snacks are served each day.

WHAT:  Party at Surfwood RV with the band called Late Night Sax out of California........ 
WHERE: Surfwood Rv and Campground Mile Marker 215 on the 101.
WHEN:     Sunday July 29th 7-9   (come early for a $2.00 donation and swim and jump on the pillow)
WHO:  Late Night Sax a two person band, playing jazzy, blues, country, classic rock, all around happy music.

This will be an event for families.  You may bring a meal for yourself to eat out around the pool or grass area.  You may bring a potluck dish to share and then eat with a large group.  Please bring your own chair or blanket.  This band plays happy dance music, so you may dance, or just sit and relax.  Small pets will be welcome if you have a doggy bag and a non barker.   If there is not anyone at the front of the campground, please drive around back as far as you can go and park where the attendant asks you to.  We are not charging for the band, but hope some people will donate a bit to cover some of the expenses of bringing them here.  We are going to start having bands or entertainment open to the public every other week end.

The Umpqua Discovery Center is proud to announce that the "REEDSPORT HISTORY-THE CITY ON STILTS – 1912-1930" video is now available in the gift shop.   The video includes photos, information, and oral histories from area residents.   The production of the video was made possible through grants obtained by the UDC Treasure Chest with proceeds to continue the educational programming and exhibits at the Center.  The DVD sells for $12.95 and is also available for viewing in the Center's Theater.

Grace O'Connor and Annie Raines are the featured artists at the First Friday art event.  Grace, a local photographer with 25 years experience, will feature her collections from the Pacific Northwest, Southwest, Europe, China, and Japan.  Grace's photos highlight the architectural and landscape beauty of the world.  Annie specializes in handmade art dolls.  Annie's work includes a wide variety of art dolls including:  French bed dolls, elves, and many others.  Annie will also be available with art dolls in different stages of creation to share her technique in repair and design.
 
Wine tasting will be available during the event.  Reedsport Coffeehouse will organize the tasting with a variety of wines, providing a taste for everyone.
 
CDABA is a nonprofit organization and offers these FREE art events for enjoyment by people of all ages.
 
Future First Friday event locations are:  September 3rd (Mindpower Gallery), October 1st (TBD), November 5th (TBD), December 3rd (Coastal Ceramics/Ocean Breeze-1st Anniversary event) and January 8th (note date change—Mindpower Gallery/2nd Annual Photography Contest).
 
Artist Showcase future dates are August 20th (Tim Fitzgerald), September 17th (Cheryl LeVesque), October 15th  (Skip Seay), November 19th, and December 17th all at the Reedsport Natural Food Store (Hwy 101) in Reedsport.

Upcoming Artist Fair & Fountain Celebration
 
As a part of its recent promotions of the arts, CDABA will be sponsoring an Artist Fair to be held on Saturday, August 7, 2010 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.  The Artist Fair will be held on the grounds of the Reedsport Coffeehouse, 2285 Longwood Drive, Reedsport, OR  97467.  It will include local artist, pieces of art donated to CDABA, and a celebration of Confluence Fountain.
 
During the event, CDABA would also like to celebrate the generous support given to Confluence Fountain in downtown Reedsport.  The maintenance could not be possible without the generous donations of the Fountaineers.  The 2010 fountain sponsors include:  Central Lincoln PUD, Lee & Lorelyn Bridges, Joe & Midge Freitas, Bob & Donna Fulhart, Bill & Sheila Julian, Steve & Kathleen Miller, James Mix, Leo & Joy Murphey, Walter Murphey, Roy & Marlene Swift, and Jeff & Pam Vander Kley.  CDABA always welcomes additional Fountain Sponsors.
 
Artist who would like to have a display booth may submit an application together with the $25.00 to CDABA at PO Box 5, Reedsport, OR  97467.  Artists may pick up an application from the Reedsport Coffeehouse or by contacting Kathleen Miller at kkmiller@reedsportlaw.com.  Some artists may wish to share a booth and the cost with other artist, to do so, please contact Kathleen Miller.
 
As a part of its Artists Fair, CDABA is making plans to sell art and is seeking donations of art.  All kinds of art are being sought-- whether it is an original, new piece of art or a piece of art that is looking for a new home.  The art can be any type of art, paintings, drawings, sculptures, printmaking, photography, jewelry, etc.  The proceeds from the sales of the art pieces will go to benefit the various community projects CDABA sponsors, including the First Friday . . . Art for Everyone events, the Artist Showcase events, and the Confluence Fountain.
 
Anyone interested in donating a piece of art should contact Tamara Szalewski at the Mindpower Gallery (271-2485) or Kathleen Miller (271-2101) to make arrangements for the donation.  CDABA is a local nonprofit and donations to CDABA are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law and every donor should consult with his or her tax accountant.

The Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to help The Reedsport High School Project Graduation with staffing the registration booths for the 2010 DuneFest event.  The volunteer duties will consist of registering the participants as they enter into the DuneFest area and helping with other various activities throughout the five day event.  We welcome all volunteers that can give a few hours Wednesday, August 4 - Saturday, August 7.
 
DuneFest 2010 will be exciting and fun-filled with many ATV enthusiasts participating in activities throughout the event.
 
The Oregon Festival and Events Association (OFEA) awarded DuneFest with the highest honor – The Ovation Award for "The Best Sporting Event in Oregon" and presented it at the Northwest Festival and Event Conference.
