63rd Annual National Day of Prayer
On Thursday, May 1st, our nation will pause to observe a National Day of Prayer, and on that day, we as the church in Reedsport, have an opportunity to emphasize the importance of PRAYER as a testimony to who God is, what we believe, and the fact that our Nation was founded upon the truths of God's Word. LUMA, the Lower Umpqua Ministerial Association, would like to invite you to join us as we participate in this year's National Day of Prayer! We will be gathering at noon at the Reedsport Community Center, 451 Winchester Ave. to lift one voice to God in Prayer.
This year's theme, "One Voice United in Prayer" calls us to join our voices as we pray for our country, our city, our schools, our homes and churches. Participants will be able to share their prayers on these many topics as local Pastors lead them through different formats of prayer.
The National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our national heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued through our history. In 1952 a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Truman, declared an annual, national day of Prayer. In 1988 the law was amended to permanently set it on the first Thursday of every May. For more information call any member of the Lower Umpqua Ministerial Association or Pastor Terry Plotz at 541-271-4414.
