Reedsport Foursquare Church Launches Shoe Drive
Everyone is invited to participate in a shoe collection drive April 27th to May 17th.
Reedsport Foursquare is conducting a shoe collection drive April 27th thru May 17th to raise funds for a building project in Honduras, while benefiting microenterprise ventures in developing nations and keeping old shoes out of local landfills. Individuals can help by donating gently worn, used shoes during the week at the Reedsport Les Schwab tire store or on Saturdays, May 3,10,17 at the church from 9-11. Folks can also call the church at 541-271-4414 for pick-up in the Reedsport area.
In the US alone, approximately 630 million pairs of shoes are thrown away per year. The materials used to manufacture a pair of shoes are created from chemical compounds that will create health hazards if left to disintegrate openly or in landfills. By donating your gently worn, used shoes to the El Ayudante building project, your shoes are given a second chance to make a difference. All donated shoes will be redistributed to microenterprise partners through Funds2Orgs and used in developing nations for impoverished people to start, maintain, and grow a unique business opportunity to feed, clothe, and house their families.
"We are very excited to be conducting this shoe drive on the coast" notes Pastor Terry Plotz. "This campaign will raise funds that directly benefit the opening of a medical clinic in Honduras (www.EAHonduras.org). The additional advantages of diverting shoes from the waste stream to create commerce and sustainability in peoples' lives make this a win-win for everyone," said Pastor Plotz. "Our goal is to collect 7500 pairs of shoes. The only way we can do that is if community members step up and help. I am calling on everyone to clean out their unwanted, gently worn, used shoes and donate them to us."
If you, or a local organization, are interested in learning more about this opportunity to help some of the poorest people in the world you may contact Reedsport Foursquare Church at 541-271-4414 or check their website www.ReedsportFoursquare.org.

Never allow anyone to rain on your parade and thus cast a pall of gloom and defeat on the entire day. Remember that no talent, no self-denial, no brains, no character, are required to set up in the fault-finding business. Nothing external can have any power over you unless you permit it. Your time is too precious to be sacrificed in wasted days combating the menial forces of hate, jealously, and envy. Guard your fragile life carefully.
