Food fare flows at Confluence in downtown Reedsport! Friday, February 17th 4p-10p and Saturday, February 18th noon-10pm. Fans come from miles around to enjoy the rare Umpqua aquaculture oysters only grown in the "triangle" at Winchester Bay. These oysters are planted on long lines and never touch the sandy ocean floor. Water flows throughout the triangle from the Umpqua River and the Pacific Ocean which results in a divine flavor that is both salty and sweet. Best served raw, according to purists, they will be served at Confluence as raw "shooters" with a dab of cocktail sauce, lemon juice or a shake of hot pepper sauce. If you prefer sautéed, or fried, it's your choice. Pick your favorite or enjoy them all and indulge! Other fabulous foods include fresh asparagus treats brought by the experts at Canby Asparagus Farm's Casa de Tamales; selections from Porters Catering, plenty of award winning clam chowder, along with along with salads, cookies and fudge. If that's not enough to make your mouth water, there's always Bobbi's famous cheese bread! To wash it all down, try an ice cold beer from our sponsor Ninkasi or other bubbly brews. Like a nice wine from one of fabulous Oregon wineries. 21 and older only. $10/day/person - $9 Seniors. 2-Day Pass $16 - $14 Seniors.

WHO: UMPQUA DISCOVERY CENTER
Contact: 541-271-4816 info@umpquadiscoverycenter.com
This year will mark the 50th anniversary of the Columbus Day Storm. The storm of 1962 is a contender for the 'Biggest Extratropical Cyclone of the 20th Century'. Cape Blanco's anemometer, that lost one of its cups, registered wind gusts in excess of 145 mph, some reports put the peak velocity at 179mph. In less than 12 hours, over 11 billion board feet of timber was blown down in Northern California, Oregon and Washington combined. This exceeded the annual timber harvest for Oregon and Washington at the time. 46 fatalities were attributed to the storm and 100's were injured. The level of emergency caused by this storm exceeds that of any other Pacific Northwest event in memory.
TELL US YOUR STORY
The Center is interested in hearing what you remember from this storm. E-mail your stories and/or photos to info@umpquadiscoverycenter.com., or bring them by the Center. Stories will be featured in future newsletters, our website, and a special history program in October.
