WHAT: Welcome The Arrival of the Cyclists
WHEN: September 12, 2011 from 2:00pm - 4:30pm
WHERE: 22nd Street, Reedsport Baseball Field and High School Area
Well with very few days before Cycle Oregon arrives, the plans and festivities are all set. All the activities will take place on Monday, September 12th
With luck the entire community will line the finish line at 22nd Street and #101 to WELCOME those 2,200 riders for their arduous journey over the river and through the woods from Cottage Grove. From 2:00pm to 4:30 or so things will be popping at the finish line. Come join with the 4-Hers, the Braves cheerleaders, several youth groups, some old car enthusiasts, B Sharp and many others with balloons, tambourines and cheering for the 92 mile trek.
To assist those cyclists with some energy to spare there will be two transportation arrangements. The Shuttle will carry them from Barrone Park to the Food Tent and the Van will have two routes: one will leave from the school and go to the Umpqua River Lighthouse where full moon tours for $5.00 will be underway as well as free visits to the museum. The Second Route will be from the school to the Discovery Center Museum, with two additional stops: the first near McDonalds on Highway #101 and the second in Old Towne near the PUD building. Many of the businesses in those areas will be staying opening longer and offering "evening specials".
There will also be a Vendor's Fair in the area of 22nd Street with a few of the local business setting up a table or two showing their wares.
There are many other activities that will keep the community members very busy but it will be serving the cyclists with food and hospitality services.

'UMPQUA RIVER BRIDGE 75TH ANNIVERSARY'
'UMPQUA RIVER BRIDGE 75TH ANNIVERSARY'
September 8th, 3:00pm
Join us for a celebration/dedication of the Umpqua River Bridge 75th Anniversary. The Umpqua River Bridge opened on July 2, 1936. No dedication occurred at that time for various reasons. President Roosevelt was to be traveling the Pacific Coast in September, but since that never occurred, the dedication was postponed indefinitely. 75 years later the bridge will officially be dedicated.
3:00pm Bridge to Open and Close. Chamber Ambassadors to hold a ribbon cutting at the bridge, with Douglas County Commissioner Susan Morgan. This will be followed by vintage cars from the 20's & 30's crossing over the bridge. Dee French will be riding in the first car to cross, just as her mother, Marjorie Barnes (later Pyle), was the 1st woman to cross 75 years ago. Public is welcome and can park at the Chamber Visitor Center (101 & 38) to watch the event from the 'A' Frame area. Additional viewing available from the Umpqua Discovery Center tower and back deck.
Everyone is then invited to the Umpqua Discovery Center for dedication speeches from Mayor Keith Tymchuk, ODOT Bridge Preservation Manager Benjamin Tang, Douglas County Commissioner Susan Morgan, and Senator Joanne Verger.
A Presentation/Book Signing will follow by Author Judy Fleagle
'Crossings-McCullough's Coastal Bridges'.
