Who:  Old Towne Reedsport Merchants Association OTRMA
What:  2011 OTRMA Annual Hanging Flower Basket Planting
Where:  339 Fir Ave (Next to the Post Office)
When:  May 7th and May 14th 10AM-Noon
For the 4th year in a row, OTRMA is planting the beautiful hanging baskets that will hang on the light poles downtown and at several businesses on Hwy 101.  The baskets along Hwy 38 are totally self-watering this year thanks to the dedicated volunteers from the community and some help from the Parks Department. We also received generous discounts on the materials needed for the watering system from local businesses.  Thank You All!
What we now need is more money donations to purchase flowers, potting mix, and fertilizer.  We have the OTRMA Cookbook, "Coastal Community Favorites" for sale and all the proceeds from those sales go directly to the project. The cookbook can be purchased for $8 each at Winchester Bay Market, The Umpqua Light House Gift Store, The Pharmacy, Bedrocks Restaurant, Nose to Toes, and Kathi's Vintage Antiques Gifts & Collectibles.
On May 7th there will be annual flowers for sale at the Planting Party at 339 Fir Ave (Next to the Post Office) and there is an ongoing raffle for a garden pot full of garden items that have been donated by businesses and individuals in the community.  The tickets are $1 each and can be purchased at Kathi's Vintage Antiques. Drop by to take a look at all the wonderful items in the pot between now and May 7th.  Or stop by on the 7th and come help us plant the baskets, buy some raffle tickets, and buy some great priced annuals.  It is always a load of fun and you could make a new friend!
If anyone is interested in making a cash donation, please call Kathi at (541) 271-3044 or send your check to OTRMA, PO BOX 543, Reedsport, Oregon 97467.

Earthquake and Tsunami Awareness in Oregon
Oregon Emergency Management Geologic Hazards Coordinator Althea Rizzo and other state agency experts will be holding free preparedness workshops concerning tsunamis and earthquakes in several Oregon communities in May.
Oregon suffered considerable damage from two moderate earthquake events in 1993 and a distant tsunami from Alaska in 1964. Scientific evidence indicates that Oregon is at risk for a much larger and potentially more damaging earthquake associated with the Cascadia Subduction Zone that is expected to generate strong ground shaking and a destructive tsunami. The recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan brings the hazard home and offers a teachable moment.
Join us as we talk about how to be more prepared for earthquakes and tsunamis in Oregon!
