WHY: the coalition regrants funds to cultural groups in Douglas County
The Douglas County Cultural Coalition is accepting grant applications from local art, heritage and humanities organizations or projects. Grants range from $250 to $1,000. Deadline is March 30. Applications can be requested by email at jcoyne8@yahoo.com or sramseywatson@gmail.com. Or one can be picked up at the Douglas County Library during their regular business hours.
The Douglas County Cultural Coalition's purpose is to support cultural participation in all forms throughout the county and is funded through the generous support of the Oregon Cultural Trust (OCT). Last year the coalition regranted $15,590 to 21 projects ranging from a mural drawing to pencil sketch classes. This year the funds received total $13,161 which approximates less than thirteen cents per resident. You can support the Oregon Cultural Trust be selecting a cultural trust license plate and by donating funds to the trust and receiving an income tax credit.
The group is also seeking members to join the board and assist in the coalition's mission of supporting the arts, humanities and heritage.
In the Coastal Douglas area, the fund has supported: Tsalila, Riverfront Rhythms, the Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra, Great Afternoons and the Friends of Umpqua River Light.

Tickets are now available for the ever-popular wine tasting tour. This year the tour will include 4 wineries: Hillcrest, Becker, Ruestle-Prayer Rock, and Juliana. Tickets are $50 each. The bus leaves at 9 a.m. and should return about 4:30 p.m. Ticket price includes lunch, a souvenir wine glass, and door prizes. You better bet your green beer we are back for a second year of the very popular trivia contest and pub crawl to benefit the library! Prizes will be awarded to the team who answers the most questions, as well as the best dressed team and the team who gathers the most outside donations for the library!
The entry fee is $20.00 for a team of four, and $5 more for each additional person. The entry form is available online - or at the Mindpower Gallery or the Reedsport Library. The deadline for registration for this event is 5:30 pm on March 17th.
The 5 pubs we will be visiting this year are: The Eagles Lodge, The Moose Lodge, Tide's Inn, Club 38, and the Waterfront. Each location will have food and drink for purchase and you will be required to answer 20 questions at each establishment for a total of 100 questions.
After your team has visited each establishment, we will meet at 8:30 at the Waterfront for the announcement of the winners.

Three Rivers Gallery – Reopening Celebration
Coastal Douglas Arts & Business Alliance (CDABA) is pleased to be a part of the reopening celebration of the Three Rivers Gallery in Gardiner. The next First Friday . . . Art for Everyone will be held Friday, March 4th between 5-7 pm. The First Friday event will be hosted by David Anthony, owner of Three Rivers Gallery, 77231 US Highway 101, Gardiner, OR 97441.
David Anthony, owner of Three Rivers Gallery, is a metal sculptor who has marketed his art locally as well as around the nation. He is also participating in the design of the fence proposed for Lions Park.
The gallery will showcase Mr. Anthony's contemporary abstract/figurative drawings and sculpture. His welded steel sculpture often incorporates steel found objects and an lyrical visual rhythm.

This is a FREE EVENT. Next month First Friday will feature the art of the high school students and will be held at the Reedsport Natural Foods store on April 1st. Future dates will be May 6th, June 3rd, July 1st, August 5th, September 2nd, October 7st, November 4th, and December 2nd.
