Violist Kate Rogers returns for her second solo appearance with two others in the premiere of a new work at the Winter Concert of the Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra (OCCO) at 2 P.M. on Sunday afternoon, February 20, in the Pacific Auditorium, located at the Reedsport Community Charter School.
In celebration of the orchestra's tenth season, OCCO will again offer a special ticket price. Purchase of an "early-bird" ticket ($10.00) will admit two persons. Tickets are now on sale at the Reedsport Branch of Umpqua Bank.
"Sinfonia Concertante" is the new work by Ralph Stricker-Chapman, Principal Cellist with OCCO. The four-movement composition is scored for violin, viola and 'cello soloists plus orchestra. Violinist Karlstrom, violist Rogers and the composer comprise the trio of soloists. The piece is written in the form used by Mozart and others during the Classical Period (1750 to 1800.)

Originally from Arizona, Rogers is currently the principal violist with OCCO. She also performs
regularly with the Oregon Bach Collegium, the Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, and the Oregon Mozart Players. An avid supporter of contemporary music, her recent projects include the first documented United States premiere of William Alwyn's Pastoral Fantasia for Viola and Strings (1939) as part of OCCO's 2010 winter concert series.
For the past two summers she participated in the Manchester Music Festival Young Artists Program as a fellowship recipient. Kate recently completed her Masters degree in Viola Performance and String Pedagogy at the University of Oregon, and is now working on a concurrent Masters in Musicology. In addition to her performance commitments, Kate is a Suzuki violin and viola instructor at the UO Community Music Institute.

In addition to the featured work, conductors Robin DeVour and John Monks will direct the orchestra in a variety of lighter selections to complement the program.
