The Reedsport Branch Library Renovation Committee is looking for photographs that 'Capture the Spirit of Coastal Douglas County.' In the latest fundraiser for the Reedsport Branch Library's renovation project, CDABA is hosting an amateur photography contest in Reedsport.
A call for photographers to submit amateur photographs is being made for this juried contest for photos whose composition is of the Coastal Douglas area between Scottsburg and the coast from Gardiner to Winchester Bay.
Entry forms for the contest will be available at Mindpower Gallery, Reedsport Branch Library, Reedsport Charter school office, and online @

Prizes will be awarded by a panel of judges who will announce the top photos on January 14, 2011 at Mindpower Gallery.
Submissions must be delivered to the Reedsport Branch Library on Friday, January 7 from 10am to Noon and from 5pm to 7pm. Photos must be 8" x 10" or 11" x 14" and be presentation ready. No framed photos allowed.
The winning photos will be announced and displayed at the Mindpower Gallery on January 14, 2010 from 5pm to 7pm. Refreshments will be served during the evening unveiling.
The top three winners will take home a portion of the proceeds from auctioning off the winning photos at an upcoming event. The top ten winners will be printed in a 'Capture the Spirit of Coastal Douglas County' book comprised of the winners from this annual photography Contest. This book will be published upon the completion of library renovation project and will be available for sale.

WHAT: A Christmas Concert with Tingstad & Rumbel
WHEN: Friday, December 17th at 7:00pm
WHERE: Pacific Auditorium Longwood in Reedsport
WHO: Eric Tingstand and Nancy Rumbel are accomplished instrumental musicians
COST: Ten dollars - tickets available at Umpqua Bank
PROCEEDS: The net receipts from the concert will go to Great Afternoons, a division of ORCA (Oregon Coast Community Action)
"A Concert for the Christmas Season" will be held at 7:00pm on Friday, December 17th with Eric Tingstad and Nancy Rumbel. This Grammy award winning duo will be performing selections from their 17th album, "Comfort and Joy". Their specialty is finger picking guitar and flute instrumentals. The concert will be at Pacific Auditorium at 2260 Longwood in Reedsport.
Both Umpqua Post and Umpqua Bank are cosponsoring the event, with the Post making free tickets available to music students. Tickets are available at Umpqua Bank and at the door for $10.00. For more information call Joe Coyne 271-2103
The proceeds of the concert will go to the benefit of The Great Afternoon programs a division of Oregon Coast Community Action (ORCCA) an agency working to eliminate the adverse effects of poverty in Coos, Curry and Western Douglas Counties which last year assisted 178 youths in Coastal Douglas. These many programs (day care - community garden - summer camp) are a tremendous asset to the community and any support that can be sent their way will permit the Great Afternoons staff to continue their "great" work.

Everyone is invited to attend this Sunday, December 19 @ 11:00 a.m. when Highlands Baptist Church will present a special worship program entitled, "What If There Were No Christmas." There is no cost for admission.
Don't forget, you can come early @ 9:45 a.m. for Bible Study. There is a Bible Study class for every person no matter their ages.
