Bill Julian, Director, 271-3833
Carlyine Ritter, Assistant Director, 271-4312
Reedsport, Ore.  --  Hundreds of  Family History Centers across the U. S. welcome everyone with an interest in their roots.  There's one right here in Reedsport.

This month Director Bill Julian, brought WiFi to the center, allowing researchers to bring laptop computers and accessories along with them when researching their ancestors. Seven other Internet-connected computers are on hand for patron use.  Julian said, "We want to offer as many tools for research as we can, to go along with the exploding number of research sources being offered in the world today."  Some need to research their genetic heritage for health reasons. Others expect learning of ancestors will provide insights into who they are today.  Learning about ancestors can become an exciting adventure, bring blessings, and strengthen family ties.

Registered family history consultants are there to provide hands-on assistance and show patrons how easy it is to get started. All services are available to the public as well as members. There's no charge for using computers, viewing the filmed records and using other resources on hand.  One-on-one help is available and newcomers are always welcome. There is never a charge for services, with the exception of a modest charge for photocopies or film rentals. Family History Centers are nonprofit operations staffed by volunteers.

The center is open Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  The public is invited to arrange for other times to accommodate their own schedules by calling the center when it is open (541-271-3736), or the director at 541-271-3833, or Assistant Director Carlyine Ritter at 541-271-4312.

The Church of Jesus Christ also offers Family History Centers in Florence and North Bend. In fact, the Center located in the Coos Bay Stake Center is inviting all those interested in family history to "Discover Your Family Tree" at the 31st Annual Family History Seminar, on Saturday, Oct. 23, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 3355 Virginia, North Bend, Ore.  It's free of charge, and attendees may choose two classes in the morning and two more in the afternoon, all led by experienced consultants and professional genealogists.  Attendees are treated to an outstanding lineup that includes something for every level of interest, as well as a free lunch.
Classes include: Off to a Great Start - An introduction to family history research; They Fought for the South - Researching the Soldiers and Sailors of the Confederate States of America; Building a Census History: The Spotted Cow, The Children's Corner, and the Holidays of Dutch New York; Research in "Old Dutch" New York State; Why Mormons Do Genealogy; and many more.  See complete list at www.coosbayfhc.info or call 541-756-444575.
