Fun & Proceeds from the St. Patrick's Day Trivia Challenge Pub Crawl

Fun was had by all and more than $2,000 was raised during the St. Patrick's Day Trivia Challenge Pub Crawl on March 17. Prizes were awarded to the team that answered the most questions correctly and incorrectly. The Best Dressed team award was also presented.

More than 100 people participated in the Pub Crawl where teams answered such trivia questions as what is customary for the Irish to do during a wake and which style of ring is often considered the "Wedding Ring?" The 'Shamrockers' from Dunes Family Health Clinic answered the most questions correctly. Kathi's Vintage Antiques and Collectibles took the prize for the least number of questions answered correctly. The Best Dressed award went to the Shamrockettes. Hal Pintar won the "Collection for the Library - strait donation award for the largest single donation and Cut Loose Hair Design came in second.

Of the event, Dunes Family Health Clinic teammate Heather Strowbridge commented, "We had such a great time, had great competition and enjoyed being a part of such an important fundraising event for our community."

The winning team members of the Shamrockers Irene Doane; Sheila Hathaway; Katie Halstead; Megan Henning; Kammy Martindale; Laura Migas; Michelle Petrofes, MD; Sara Rice; and Heather Strowbridge from Dunes Family Health Clinic. Best Dressed winners the Shamrockettes were Cindy Cade, Victoria Sawyer, Tami Perry, Megan Ingram, and Rachel Mitchell. Kathi's Vintage Antiques & Collectible teammates were Kathi Wall-Meyer and Allen Tietzel. Door prizes, fifty-fifty raffle prizes and basket raffles were given out during the award ceremony at the Waterfront Bar & Grill.

The five participating 'pubs' donated 10 percent of their sales to the Reedsport Branch Library Renovation Project during the two hours of this fundraiser. Total figures of their donations were not available as of the date of this press release. The pubs who generously contributed to the success of this fundraiser were the Eagles, Moose Lodge, The Landing, Tides Inn and the Waterfront Grill and Bar. Bobbie Unger from The Landing donated four of her famous chocolate and Grasshopper pies. The Sugar Shack donated a cake and other local businesses donated baskets, goodie bags and other items for this event.

Members of the Reedsport Branch Library Fundraising Committee organized the event as part of their ongoing efforts to raise nearly $350,000 to make necessary repairs and upgrades to the library in Reedsport.

WHAT:           2010 Benefit Dinner and Auction for Reedsport Athletics
WHERE:        Reedsport Community Center
WHEN:           Saturday, April 10, 2010, 5pm to 9pm
WHO:             Bedrock's Restaurants' volunteer auction committee
Contact:         Joe Zelinski, auction publicity coordinator

The 2010 Benefit Dinner and Auction supporting athletic activities at Reedsport schools will be held Saturday, April 10 at the Reedsport Community Center.  The event is the centerpiece of fundraising activities that maintain many of the athletic programs at Reedsport schools.

"This event is crucial in order for us to continue providing a variety of athletic activities for students," says James Hixenbaugh, Athletic Director at Reedsport Jr./Sr. High School.  "With the school district having made cutbacks in athletics funding for this school year, a successful auction event is even more important for the coming year."

This will be the ninth year for the auction event, which has also turned into a school-wide reunion for many attendees, bringing together local residents as well as Reedsport alumni who now live outside the area.  The event is presented and catered by Bedrock's Restaurants, through an all-volunteer committee.

In addition to the dinner and auction on Saturday evening, event organizers are planning a golf scramble for Saturday morning, and a post-event gathering at the Eagles Lodge on Saturday night following the auction.  The pre-auction social hour will feature live music from the Slough Kats.  During the auction event, a special tribute will honor former teacher and coach Jack Blum, who passed away earlier this year.

Past auction events have included a wide range of items donated by individuals and businesses, including time share usage, college and pro sports tickets, artwork, hardware, jewelry, fine wines, golf outings, handmade arts and crafts, fishing gear and trips, hotel accommodations and more.

Dinner tickets are $25 per plate, which includes bidding privileges.  $13 of the admission amount directly benefits the athletic programs.  All other monies raised at the event go toward the athletics fund as well.  Tickets are available at Bedrock's Restaurant in Reedsport, at Reedsport Jr./Sr. High School, or via mail.  More information and a printable order form are available at www.bravesboosters.com/auction.

A WORD FROM MISS MANNERS
As we move into the warmer months, it's a good time to reiterate a point of dance etiquette. You've probably seen in our publicity that we ask you not to wear fragrances to a dance, because some people are sensitive to them. In addition, the odor of unwashed bodies or clothing can be unpleasant at a contra dance. If you've had an active day, please shower and put on a clean shirt before the dance. And if you had a sardine-and-onion sandwich for dinner...brush your teeth too. Thanks!
