Tickets are now available for the annual COASTAL CHRISTMAS BASKET sponsored by PEO Chapter BZ of Reedsport.   Each year funds generated from  ticket sales go towards the annual scholarship award for a local high school senior girl and scholarships presented on state and international levels by PEO.

Tickets may be purchased from Marlene Swift,  271-5126,  and will also be on sale at the Umpqua Bank on Friday, December 4th.
 
 Visit our booth at the Holiday Bazaar, December 5 & 6,at the Reedsport Community Center  to purchase your winning ticket for this years beautiful COASTAL CHRISTMAS BASKET.  The winning number will be drawn Saturday afternoon before closing.

WHAT:  Quartet of conductors keeps Orchestra's Fall opener on track
WHERE:  Pacific Auditorium, located at Reedsport High School
WHEN:    7 P.M. on Sunday, November 29
WHO:  Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra (OCCO)
 
Four conductors will wield the baton at the Fall program presented by the Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra (OCCO). The Pacific Auditorium at Reedsport High School will be the venue for the "South of the Border" concert on Sunday, November 29 at 7 P.M.   A pre-concert talk begins 30 minutes before concert time.  A special "early-bird" ticket ($10.00) will admit two persons, and is now on sale at the Reedsport branch of Umpqua Bank. The price of admission will increase to $10.00 per person at the Auditorium Box Office on the evening of the event.
 
Robin DeVour, OCCO'S conductor and Music Director, will share conducting duties with Associate Conductors Steve Conaton, John Dodge and John Monks. DeVour founded the orchestra, now in its ninth season, in 2001. Monks joined OCCO two years ago, after retiring from his post as Director of an Army National Guard Band in Sacramento. Conaton is in his second year as Director of Bands in the Siuslaw School District. Dodge, who held this position previously, is currently finishing a Master's degree in the School of Music at the University of Oregon.
 
Conaton will open the concert with three early Latin-American pieces: the Overtura in d by Brazilian composer Jose Mauricio Nunes Garcia, "Douce Caresse," a waltz by Cuban composer, Eduardo Sanchez de Fuentes and "Gavotta" by Mexican composer Manuel Ponce.
 
The violin soloist, Yvonne Hsueh, will be heard in the Concierto Indio by Peruvian composer, Theodoro Valcarcel. OCCO'S accompaniment of this work will be led by Dodge.
 
DeVour and Monks will share direction in the second half of the program. DeVour will lead OCCO in three works by Cuban-born Ernesto Lecuona and the concluding piece, "Granada from Mexican songwriter, Agustin Lara.
 
Monks will conduct a traditional Mexican song, "La cucaracha" and the three-movement "Danzas Latino-Americanas" by young Mexican composer Jose Elizondo.

The annual Community Women's Advent Fellowship will be held at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 2160 Elm Avenue in Reedsport, on Thursday, December 10, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The Community Women's Advent Fellowship begins with an Advent/Christmas devotional service; following the service, the ladies gather in the Parish Hall to enjoy Christmas desserts and to sing Christmas carols.  Everyone is welcome!

CDABA announces it monthly art event—First Friday . . .Art for Everyone.
 
Attend this open house type venue to view and enjoy art in all forms of art medium, while in the company of fellow art enthusiast.  The first of the First Friday events will be Friday, December 4th between 5 – 7 p.m.

Come see Santa Claus at the 48th Annual Holiday Bazaar in Reedsport, Oregon held December 4-5, 2009. Friday 5-9pm Saturday 9am-5pm.  Oregon crafters will sell their best handmade crafts.  Food will be provided by Reedsport High School art by Highland Elementary School.  Sponsored by the Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce, this event will be held at the Reedsport Community Building.
 
The 14th Annual Gingerbread House Contest will be held during the Holiday Bazaar.  Always a favorite, there will be prizes for two age groups: 17 and younger and 18 and older.  Houses must be completely edible and delivered to the Reedsport Community Building no later than Saturday, December 5th before 10am.  Put this Holiday Bazaar on your list of places to be during the month of December.  Call The Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce at (541) 271-3495 or (800) 248-2155 for more information.
