PEO Chapter BZ of Reedsport has begun their annual carnation sale fundraiser for 2009.  Monies received have generated $1,700 in scholarship monies each year for the past six years and includes local scholarships to a Reedsport high school senior.

Carnations are attractively displayed in a clear plastic box, wrapped with a yellow ribbon and a personalized card for delivery and may be purchased from any member of PEO, Chapter BZ.  To order your carnations, at $17.00 a dozen, please call Mary Paula at 271-5239 or Marlene Swift, 271-5126.

What: Rockin' for the Renovation
When: Sunday, Sept. 13th  1:30-4:30 p.m.
Where: Reedsport Coffeehouse
 
Come out and be ready to dance to PBA and the Hot Flashes as they play a free admission concert to benefit the Renovation of Reedsport Branch Library.  Reedsport Coffeehouse will have a BBQ/Buffet: Adults;: $10 Seniors and children under 12: $5.  There will be a raffle, 50/50 and pass the hat...all proceeds to benefit the Renovation.  Support a great cause and have fun Boogying for the Books!!!!!

The Tsalila Festival returns to Old Town Reedsport on September 25th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm and September 26th from 10:00am to 7:00pm. Education and entertainment with hands-on activities for the whole family to enjoy! The 13th annual event takes place at the Umpqua Discovery Center & Rainbow Plaza, in Reedsport.

Vendors and Exhibits including a Tribal Village, Wild Birds of Prey, A-mazing Salmon Maze, Pioneer Living activities and much more.

The festival events are the finale of three educational days where students from all over Douglas, Coos, Curry and western Lane counties come together for learning activities that focus on natural and cultural history. Over 2500 children, in grades 2nd through 5th, participate in learning activities and edutainment at the Tsalila Education Days.

The Tsalila Partnership, is a unique coalition of community interests, local tribes, schools, government agencies, and non-profit organizations working together toward the common goals of watershed restoration, education and economic development. The Partnership is made up of the Bureau of Land Management; City of Reedsport; Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw; Reedsport School District; Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce; U.S. Forest Service; and the Umpqua Discovery Center. www.tsalila.com

 You are invited to an Open House with Elizabeth (Plotz) Mohagen RHS-2002, and her husband Tristan as they share about their work with the poor in Honduras. Currently they are involved with building a free medical clinic and community center, orphan advocacy, adoption support, teen mentors, women's ministry, and United States team coordination. They also have insight into Honduras' political situation that is quite different than the media's.

What: Coast Toasties Toastmasters Open House Celebration

The Reedsport Coast Toasties Toastmasters Club is hosting an Open House on Tuesday, September 22 at the Reedsport School District Office. The public is invited to witness a Toastmaster's meeting and get some of your questions answered about how to improve your communication and leadership skills.
 
The open house will consist of an abbreviated meeting and social time, with refreshments being served. As a special promotion, the club will pay the new member fee of $20 for the first three persons to join that evening.
 
Following a specific theme selected by the Toastmaster, i.e. master of ceremonies, the club meets Tuesdays from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at the Reedsport School District Office to practice their communication and leadership skills. This week's theme will be 'Dare to Succeed.' Amy Olson will be presenting the speech while other members will perform various functions, including Timer, Grammarian, Evaluator, and Humorist.
 
At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a friendly, fun and supportive environment. The program is self-paced and allows members to build confidence with each speaking assignment. Constructive evaluation is the heart of the Toastmasters program.

The Lower Umpqua Economic Development Forum will be hosting its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 6:30pm at the Port of Umpqua Building in Reedsport. Forum members and the general public is encouraged to attend this meeting to receive an update on Forum projects, a discussion about the City of Reedsport's Comprehensive Plan, and the Forum's annual board elections.
 
Learn about what the Forum is doing to revitalize our area and how you can get involved. The Port of Umpqua Building is located at 364 N. Fourth Street in Reedsport. Refreshments will be served.
 
The Lower Umpqua Economic Development Forum was established in 2001 by local business, public entities, and interested citizens in Coastal Douglas County. Its purpose is to partner with other organizations to create a strong and healthy economic, infrastructural, social and educational environment of community located in Coastal Douglas County.
