PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION    # 2  of  7

WHAT:  Next Christmas In July Planning Meeting
WHERE:  Church of God 2191 Birch Avenue
WHEN:    6:30pm Tuesday June 30
WHO:  Christmas In July Committee
Contact: cij.weebly.com or 271 3928

The June 23 Christmas in July committee meeting at the Church of God on Birch Avenue was headed by chairman Allen Cheney. We now have 28 homes under consideration for repair and they were reviewed for cost of repairs and volunteers needed. It was apparent  that unless more volunteers come forward it will be difficult to do all the requested repairs. All present agreed to do all possible to recruit volunteers. House captains to oversee repairs on each home are especially needed.

An application for a grant from a National Geographic program that will make homes more energy efficient has been filed. If successful this will be incorporated in the program for next year. To support this request with a comment please log on to our website at cij.weebly.com and go to the news section. Volunteer forms can also be downloaded from this site.

WHAT:        Salmon Harbor Marina receives Oregon State Marine Board grant for final phase of improvements to the East Basin Boat Launch
WHERE:     East Basin Boat Launch facility, Salmon Harbor Marina, Winchester Bay
Contact:      Linda Noel, Project Manager Salmon Harbor Marina  541/271-3407 ext. 24

The Oregon State Marine Board at their regular board meeting on Thursday, June 18, in Astoria approved a $320,000 Boating Facility grant to Salmon Harbor Marina to pave, construct curbing, stripe stalls, and manage stormwater to replace the gravel parking facilities at the East Basin Boat Launch.

It was a very competitive process with over $12 million in project applications received by the State Marine Board for the approximate $3 million in available grant funds.  Salmon Harbor Marina ranked high due in-part to the dedication of $100,000 cash match with an $11,000 in-kind match.  The public bid process will begin in July with construction to take place this fall.

"We are very pleased to receive this grant award from the Oregon State Marine Board to complete the final phase of the planned improvements to the East Basin Boat Launch," said Jeff Vander Kley, Harbor Manager for Salmon Harbor Marina.  "The grant for the parking improvements will be the third time that the Oregon State Marine Board has partnered with Salmon Harbor to fund improvements at the East launch.  In 2005 they granted funds to replace the restroom and again in 2007, together with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Port of Umpqua, they contributed grant funds to replace the launch ramp and boarding floats."

WHAT:        SALMON HARBOR MARINA ANNOUNCES THE ADDITION OF A NON-ETHANOL UPLAND FUEL DISPENSER
WHERE:     Near marine fuel dock on middle spit, Salmon Harbor Marina, Winchester Bay
Contact:      Jeff Vander Kley, Harbor Manager Salmon Harbor Marina  541/271-3407 ext. 25

Salmon Harbor Marina is pleased to announce the addition of a non-ethanol upland fuel dispenser for use in Watercraft, Lawnmowers, Weed Eaters, Antique Vehicles and Class I & III ATV's.

The non-ethanol upland fuel dispenser is located above the marine fuel dock on the middle spit of Salmon Harbor near the west boat ramp. The facility, which provides 92-octane fuel, was constructed to meet the growing demand in coastal Douglas County for non-ethanol gasoline.

"We are pleased to provide the new service," said Jeff Vander Kley, Harbor Manager for Salmon Harbor Marina.  In the past, customers were required to transport gasoline cans up and down the gangway from the marine fuel dock, which was cumbersome and unsafe. "Fuel customers can now pull directly up to the pump and have their tanks or cans filled with ease," said Vander Kley.

Due to the best Coho fishing season in years Salmon Harbor Marina is projecting a banner year in non-ethanol fuel sales. We are aware of the public need for this facility and we see this as an important service to provide our customers in a growing market," said Vander Kley.
