At the May 19 committee meeting chair Allen Chaney gave out several new referral applications for review. A revised list of financial contributors and benefactors to the program is being compiled and will be posted on the website http://cij.weebly.com/ shortly.
Thanks went to Sharon Thompson for her generosity in accepting the post of vice chair for the 2009 program, this was appreciated by all present as this will greatly assist Allen in his busy schedule.
An offer was made by K-Dune radio for volunteers to give details of the program on am1030. Arrangements are being made for this.

The planning committee has requested that all Referral Forms and Volunteer Forms be turned in as soon as possible to the Family Resource Center at 6 St. John's Way in Reedsport to allow for processing before the July 11 work date. Both forms can be downloaded from the website at cij.weebly.com. The Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Sculpting Championship will be held June 18-21 at Rainbow Plaza in Reedsport. Welcome to the best carving competition in the West! This years show promises to be the best yet as some of the best carvers from around the globe gather in Reedsport to compete for four days to see who will be this year's top artist!
We have adopted Oregon's sesquicentennial theme, "Oregon 150", as our theme for this year's competition in honor of Oregon's 150th induction into Statehood! This will be an exciting theme that will allow the creativity of the carvers to take you in a number of directions.
This remarkable carving competition will feature the daily "quick carve" competitions that have become one of the crowd favorites! These seventy-five minute "mini-competitions" are fascinating to watch and a must see for spectators.
Carvers from around the world will take "Art To The Extreme" in this exciting four day competition. Carving starts at 8:00 am daily with a daily quick carve exhibition at 10:45 am and a daily chainsaw sculpting auction at 5:30 pm Thursday through Saturday and 12:30 on Sunday. The event will also include a vendor fair and boat show. There will be a Corvette Car Show on Saturday located in Downtown Reedsport. Triathlon Race In Winchester Bay
Paddle, Run or Bike
The Ocean Fest Triathlon Races will take place July 18th, in Winchester Bay sponsored by the Gardiner-Reedsport Lions Club and the Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce.
One, two, or three person teams can compete in kayaking, running, and mountain bike races. Registration begins at 6:30 am on Coho Point in Winchester Bay. There will be a 4 mile kayak race on the Umpqua River, 8 mile biking leg, and a 4 mile running leg through Salmon Harbor. Total times of the staged events determine the winner.
Competitors can enter in a single leg or all three stages as a 1, 2 or 3 person team. There will be a First Place Triathlon Trophy and Individual Stage Awards. Each participant will receive a souvenir; t-shirt, BBQ dinner, and the joy of team work, cooperation and fun on the beautiful Oregon Coast.
