Reedsport Athletics Benefit set for April 12
REEDSPORT – The 2014 Benefit Dinner and Auction supporting athletic activities at Reedsport schools will be held Saturday, April 12 at the Reedsport Community Center.
The annual event is the centerpiece of fundraising activities conducted by the Reedsport Braves Boosters Association, and is sponsored by Bedrock's Restaurants, to help maintain athletic programs at Reedsport schools.
"This event is crucial in the Boosters' efforts to help continue to provide a variety of athletic opportunities for students," said Joe Zelinski, current Board Chair of the Boosters' organization. "There's no end in sight to the financial crunch faced by schools everywhere, and athletic and activity programs are typically among the first to have funding reduced or eliminated." Net proceeds of the event benefit the Boosters' Athletics Endowment Fund, which is used to supplement the Reedsport School District's funding of athletic programs.
This event, now in its thirteenth year, has also turned into a school-wide reunion for many attendees, bringing together local residents as well as Reedsport alumni who now live outside the area. New this year is ticket price increase on April 1, which organizers hope will entice attendees to purchase tickets early.
Through March 31, dinner tickets are $25 per plate— the same price as in past years— which includes bidding privileges. Starting April 1, the ticket price rises to $30 per plate. "We really want folks to get tickets early. It helps us tremendously with planning," said Zelinski. Tickets are available at Bedrock's Restaurants, at Reedsport Community Charter School, or via mail. More information, and a printable order form, is available at the event website: www.bravesboosters.com/auction.
Past auction events have included a wide range of items donated by individuals and businesses. The evening also includes non-auction raffles, games and direct-purchase opportunities. "Our format is unique. It's much more than an auction," Zelinski said. "Anyone can come and have a great time, and go home with a really nice item, without spending a lot of money." He added, "We've always strived to make this event as much about community as it is about fundraising."

What: JACK ADAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
High School Seniors graduating from Reedsport Community Charter School, Home School or Elkton Community School are encouraged to get their application in for the Jack Adams Memorial
Scholarship.
In 2004 Reedsport became the home of Jack Adams, an artist who loved to paint in acrylic, with landscapes being his passion. Jack also had a love of dahlias and was past president of the Oregon Dahlia Society and an international dahlia judge.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, he attended the Northern Vocational Art School and the Ontario College of Art. For thirty two years he worked in Toronto for the Municipal Government Park and Recreation Department, moving to North Bend, Oregon, in 1988.
As an active member of the Dunes Art Club, Jack Adams created many beautiful landscapes which became the property of the Art Club upon his death in 2010. Through his generosity a memorial scholarship fund was established for young aspiring artists in the area. One thousand dollars ($1,000) will be awarded to a graduating senior who plans on attending an accredited college and demonstrates an interest and involvement with watercolor, oils, acrylics, sculpturing or mixed media. Applications are available at all the schools or be calling 541-271-1121 and will be accepted on or before May 1st.
