90th Birthday Celebration for Joyce Brandon
Joyce Brandon, a Reedsport native, will be celebrating her 90th Birthday. The theme for the celebration is Good Friends and Good Music. Drop in any time between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 14th to help Joyce enjoy the company of good friends and background music by Terry Moore, and her son Jonathan Moore.
Joyce was born and raised in Reedsport (except for a 10-year sojourn in Portland . . . she returned to Reedsport as an eighth-grader). She graduated from Reedsport High School in 1941. Joyce married Ray Brandon, another Reedsport High student. Ray and Joyce had three children, Jeff, Mike and Teresa, all of whom also graduated from Reedsport High School. While raising her children Joyce was a homemaker and also had a home based seamstress business. Joyce became a Teacher's Aide and Reading Instructor at Highland Elementary in 1973. She continued to teach students how to read long past retiring. In fact she was still volunteering at the school until earlier this year. Joyce is one of the featured Reedsport personalities in the "Tidewaters & Time," exhibit at the Umpqua Discovery Center.
Friends and acquaintances of Joyce are invited to her birthday celebration. No gifts please. For those friends who just can't show up empty handed, family recommends honoring Joyce by supporting one of her passions with a gift to the United Presbyterian Church music program, the local SMART readers program, or Project Blessing (the local food pantry (you may bring donations of canned or pantry foods to the celebration).
A memorial Service will be held for Reedsport Police Chief Mark Fandrey at
3:00 pm on Sunday, the 14th of July at Pacific Auditorium.

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION # 2 of 3
Chief Mark Fandrey's memorial service is Sunday July 14th at 3pm. We are hoping people will park and enter through the back parking lot. There is a large event going on at the church next to the auditorium during a portion of the memorial service. We are envisioning that parking on Longwood is going to be very congested.

"It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for a bird to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad." -- C. S. Lewis ~Mere Christianity
