14th Annual Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Sculpting Championships
Father's Day Weekend, June 13 - 16
Reedsport, Oregon. The official Chainsaw Carving Capital of Oregon
For information: (541)271-3495
The Reedsport / Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce presents its 14th Annual Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Sculpting Championships held Father's Day weekend, June 13 - 16, 2013.
36 Professional and Semi-Pro chainsaw carvers from around the world will converge at Rainbow Plaza in downtown Reedsport, the official Chainsaw Carving Capital of Oregon. Each carver creates a masterpiece over the four-day event, beginning with a large log on Thursday morning. Each day the carver works in the open air, chips flying, as the crowds walk through the festival, stopping to see the progress each carver is making.  The vendor area is packed with food and gift offerings, and a beer /wine bar.
Every day there is a 90 minute "quick carve" event to create a mini-masterpiece that will be sold at auction that evening. Watching the carvers bring a massive piece of wood to life as they make incredibly intricate and precise cuts, is a fascinating show.  The evening auction is  held on the KCBY Auction Stage  at 5:30 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and at 1 pm on Sunday. The fun and lively bidding results in some terrific bargains and the rare opportunity to bring home art you've actually watched being made.
The Chainsaw Carvers love to talk about the art and always enjoy meeting fans. A Carver's Reception will be held at the Tides Inn on Thursday, June 13, 5:30 - 9. Complimentary snacks and a no-host bar.
On Saturday, some additional local events in downtown Reedsport include an Art Walk sponsored by the Coastal Douglas Arts And Business Alliance. Tables will be arranged on  the sidewalk of Fir Ave., showing the work of local artisans.  Across the street, the parking lot of Fullhart Insurance will be filled with Corvette cars for the annual show and shine. Corvette's of every age are on display. Up the street at Orca Gallery, an open house takes place all day.
A special auction item on Sunday will offer up the opportunity to carve your own sculpture with  help and instruction from a professional carver. The winning bidder will do it all from choosing the wood and design, to taking the heirloom home. What a great gift for dad!   The Umpqua Discovery Center, just across the street from Rainbow Plaza will have free admission for dads all day Sunday.

Art Walk to Feature 16+ Artists, Wine Tasting and Brewery Tasting
June 14th (4-8 pm) & June 15th (10-5 pm) - Old Town Reedsport
CDABA's fourth annual Art Walk will be held on Friday, June 14th from 4 pm to 8 pm and again on Saturday, June 15th (10 am – 5 pm) in old town Reedsport.
On Friday, June 14th there will be 16+ artists, who will set up their displays on the sidewalk between Rainbow Plaza and the ORCA Gallery.  There will also be additional featured artists inside the Mindpower Gallery, 415 Fir Avenue (Hwy 38).  The variety of art on display this year will include photography, paintings, hand knits, wood scroll art, stained glass, finger puppets, quilts, jewelry, and more.  The final Library Photography Contest submissions will also be on display at the Mindpower Gallery.  Be sure to stop by and vote for your choice in the People's Choice category.
Look also for open gallery spaces and other business along Highway 38---including new galleries such as Gallery 473 and Mary's Treasurers, and don't forget that the Myrtlewood Gallery, 1125 Highway Avenue (Hwy 101), also participates in the Art Walk and stays open late for visitors.  Participants may not be able to "walk" to the Myrtlewood, but it is just a short drive away—perhaps you can stop by on your way home.  The galleries and some of the artists will also be set up on Saturday, June 15th for your viewing pleasure.
The fun continues Friday night with a wine tasting event at the Mindpower Gallery, hosted by Henry Estate Winery; and a brewery tasting event at the ORCA Gallery, hosted by Reedsport's own Defeat River Brewery.  Also at the ORCA Gallery will be music by Sean Grubb between 4-5:30 pm.
New to this year's event will be a Saturday morning Kid's Craft Corner, which will be a free event.  All the materials and supplies will be provided for kids to assemble a wood craft that they can take home with them.  The Kid's Craft Corner will be open 10 am to Noon.

I think it would be great if we could help our neighbor win. The better all the towns on the coast look the more it helps us all.
