The Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) has produced new Tsunami Inundation and Evacuation maps for our area and is going to be getting these out in April and May. We will even be having an evacuation drill. You can help the project by doing an online survey to measure what we know now

March 23 - 30 is Spring Whale Watch Week - Umpqua River Lighthouse is one of the 24 "Whale Watching Spoken Here" sites with trained volunteers to help you spot Gray whales during their annual Spring Migration. We have an excellent viewing platform, complete with information panels and descriptions for you to learn all about the Gray whale's migration along the Oregon Coast. The Whale Watching volunteers will be on duty March 23 - 30 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. to help visitors see the whales and offer you more information about their migration.

April First Friday to feature Nathalie Picard-Hatch & Dennis Hatch
Come discover the Native American Indian Flute with Nathalie Picard-Hatch, professional flutist and storyteller from the Huron-wendat Tribe in Wendake, Quebec, Canada and Dennis Hatch, talented flute maker from the Chippewa Tribe of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
Recently moved to Reedsport, Shendaehwas (Nathalie) and Dennis will be happy to share with you Native American Indian culture, music, flute making, traditional songs and stories. Come enjoy the soothing sound of the Native Flute and discover an amazing ancestral culture!!! CDs "Listening through the Wind" by Nathalie Picard will be available for purchase.
Nathalie Picard, Huron-Wendat flutist, composer, singer & storyteller has been playing flute for 30 years. She also sings traditional huron-wendat songs. She recently moved to Reedsport from Wendake (Huron village), Québec, Canada.
Dennis "dg" Hatch, Chippewa flute maker has been a woodworker for over 30 years, and is a member of the Crane Clan of the Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Chippewa Indian Tribe (Anishinabe). He has been making Native flutes for about 20 years. He also makes and plays Native American Woodland flutes, traditional rattles and carves wood, antler and stone.
The event will be hosted by Darlene Ash at Jitterbug N Java, 2211 Winchester Avenue (corner of Hwy 101 & 22nd), Reedsport, OR 97467.
