A support group for people with lung disease, their families, caregivers and friends.  Sponsored by Lower Umpqua Hospital in association with the American Lung Association of Oregon.

ROTARY CLUB TALENT SHOW - February 2, 2012 @ 6 pm
ROTARIANS TO SPICE UP SHOW!
 
The Rotary Club of Reedsport's community talent show The Coastal Douglas Has Talent!-will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Pacific Auditorium, located at the Reedsport Community Charter School, 2260 Longwood Drive, Reedsport, OR  97467.
 
This year Rotarian and television personality from Medford, Oregon, Kingsley Kelley is lending his stage experience and outgoing personality to the local Rotary Club and will be the Master of Ceremonies.  Other Rotarians from the Reedsport and Florence Clubs will also be making guest appearances and lending their talents to the show.  Look for these special acts sprinkled through out the show.

The winner of the last talent show, Shannon Stein, a young violinist, will be performing her encore performance and will open the show.  The community members that have applied to participate in the show include:  Ashley Espinoza, Haylee Sams, Courtney Manicke, Savanna Vitek, Marin Tummey, Del Glasesman, Norm Floyd, Ellen Keeland, Deb Nichols, Jody Manchester, Lee Rose, Sara White, Bill Stevens, Chloe Linnehan, Sara Martin, Darlene Chapman, Randy Thompson, and Jitterbug Blues (Band members: Jonathan Moore, Duane, Sean Grubb, Jessica Hart).
 
The winning talent acts will be selected by audience vote.  Each audience member will vote for his or her favorite act.  Modest prices for 1st, 2nd, 3rd favorite acts will be awarded.  All participants will receive a token of thanks from the Bank of America.

The Reedsport / Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will be on hand to handle tickets at the door and count votes.  Doors open at 5:15, followed by a Name that Tune contest sponsored by the Umpqua Bank.  Tickets for the community talent show are available in advance from Rotarians and at the door for $5 per person.

The First Friday . . . Art for Event for February 1, 2013 (5 - 7 p.m.), will be held at the Mindpower Gallery, 417 Fir Avenue (Hwy 38), Reedsport, OR 97467 (271-2485).
 
In addition to the fine art that is always on display at the Mindpower Gallery, this event will feature jewelry handmade by Tamara Szalewski, one of the gallery's co-owners.
 
First Friday art events are sponsored by Coastal Douglas Arts & Business Alliance (CDABA) and hosted by a different location each month.

COASTAL DOUGLAS PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
Photographs Due: Friday, May 31, 2013
Final Year - 20 Winners

 This photography competition is open to "snapshot amateurs" who are untrained everyday point and shoot photographers with no formal classes or advanced workshops or prolonged self-education in photography.  Photos are to be unaltered or enhanced. Photos summitted must be in Coastal Douglas boundaries: from Scottsburg, West to Winchester Bay, North to Tachenitch and South to Tugman State Park.
 
There is a $3.00 per photograph entry fee. Prizes will be awarded and will vary each year. Check this year's submission guidelines. Finalist images will be made into a self-published Coastal Douglas County Photo Journal by the Reedsport Branch Library Fundraising Committee.
 

All photographs must be delivered to the Reedsport Branch Library on the delivery date of Friday, May 31st, from 11:00 - 1:00 or 5:00 - 7:00 to be considered in this year's competition. Due to the needs of the Mindpower Gallery facilitator, no late submissions will be accepted. Photographs will be displayed during the two week showing beginning with the Open House on Friday, June 14th, from 5:00 - 8:00.  All photographs must be picked up on the pick-up dates of June 28 or June 29 by 5:00 pm.

Do you keep livestock such as sheep, goats, cattle, pigs, or any other kind of livestock?  Or, are you simply interested in animal nutrition?  If so, please join us on Wednesday, January 30th from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. for this winter's Livestock Mineral Nutrition Workshop.  The workshop will be held at the Elkton Community Education Center in Elkton, Oregon.  Cost for the workshop is $10.00 per person at the door (cash or check only, payable to OSU Extension Service).
 
Topics for this year's workshop will include:  Mineral requirements of different classes of livestock, feed mineral content, mineral supplements, form & availability of minerals, excesses & deficiencies.  The program includes information on how to perform a mineral assessment for your animals.
 
The speaker for the Livestock Mineral Nutrition Workshop is Shelby Filley who is the Oregon State University Regional Livestock and Forages Specialist.

SAVE THE DATE - Sunday, March 17th - St. Patrick's Day
 
This year's St. Patrick's Day Trivia Challenge will be held on Sunday, March 17th starting at 3 p.m. at the Waterfront Family Dining Room.  This is an adult event.  The five downtown locations that will be participating are: The Waterfront, The Schooner CafĂ©, Tides Inn, Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge.
 
There will be a registration fee of $20 for a team of 4, and $5 additional per person (unlimited number).  Prizes this year will be limited to a prize for the winning trivia team and a prize for the best dressed team.  So be sure to get your green on.  All proceeds to benefit a local community project.  If you have a worthwhile project in mind--email the details to kkmiller@reedsportlaw.com.
