First Friday to feature Oceans of Inspirations – Fiber Art Forum
The quilt art group, Oceans of Inspirations – Fiber Art Forum will be CDABA's featured artists for the November 2nd First Friday at Lower Umpqua Hospital.
The group was formed about 2 years ago to explore techniques and products currently used to make art quilts.  Each member had the desire to move forward with their work and do less traditional pieces.
The group participates in challenges based on a chosen material, supply, or group selected theme.  Examples include a preprinted tree panel, the book "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", the theme "Rainey Daze", and making pennants to be given to the athletes participating in the London Olympics.
Members take turns leading the group in hands on projects such as fabric dyeing, stamping, and printing, advanced piecing techniques, the use of unusual products or supplies, and innovative methods.
Those submitting work for the First Friday event at the hospital include, Julie Walker, Scottsburg; Linda Mason, Hauser; Debbie Bennett, Drain; and Billie Shannon, Michelle Petrofes, Theresa Chickering, and Shawnita Zimmer, Reedsport.  The show will include the tree panel challenge pieces and a variety of individual pieces made using techniques learned, or fabrics made, with the group.
