Title: BE THE HERO IN A CHILDS STORY!

With your help, Umpqua will contribute $50,000.00 to put books in the homes of Oregon families.  We will match dollar for dollar donated up to $50000.00.  Stories have a lasting effect.  Why is reading, especially at home, so important for children?  It is a fact that third-graders who read proficiently are four times more likely to graduate from high school.  Furthermore, children with books at home come to school more ready to learn. Reading is a joy every child should experience!  Join Umpqua Bank in making this a reality for Oregon Children by donating inside your nearest store or at umpquabank.com.   A special time is set aside at our local Reedsport store this month - October 24th from 3:00 to 4:00 pm - come for snacks,  goodie bags and story time.

CHURCH OF GOD SPONSORS 10th ANNUAL TRUNK 'N' TREAT ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT

The Reedsport Church of God is sponsoring its tenth annual Trunk 'n' Treat on Halloween night, October 31, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. A free spaghetti feed dinner will be served downstairs in the Church of God Fellowship Hall directly before the event from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.

Trunk 'n' Treat provides an opportunity for families to engage in trick-or-treating in a safe, well-lit, and central location. Police officers will close off 22nd Street in front of the high school football field on Halloween night so that church members can park their vehicles in a secure Trunk 'n' Treating zone for children and their parents. Families can then proceed from trunk to trunk to collect candy.

"Our church looks forward to Trunk 'n' Treat every year," said Pastor Allen Chaney. "There's nothing like having more than four hundred costumed kids come past our cars in the space of a single hour. It's great fun for everyone!"

The free spaghetti feed before the event is open to everyone in the community, especially trick-or-treating kids and their parents. Additional refreshments will be served during Trunk –n- Treat in the Church of God parking lot.

WHO:  Oregon Coast Council for the Arts – coastarts.org

The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA) is offering a free learning session on Tuesday, November 4th, to all Coastal Douglas county artists, gallery owners, presenters of arts-related events, and arts, heritage and humanities organizations, to learn how to input their information on OCCA's website, www.coastarts.org. This website is the only one of its kind devoted exclusively to promoting coastal Oregon arts.

These easy and free sessions teach people how to enter, at no cost, arts-related events, classes, workshops, auditions, receptions, artists' profiles into our website, and become part of OCCA's coastal Events and Arts Directory.

Through a grant from Meyer Memorial Trust, OCCA redesigned its coastarts.org website, and the Oregon Community Foundation grant from the Fred Fields Fund, is allowing OCCA to create its Coastal Arts Network Design and Optimization (CAN DO) initiative to teach organizations and artists to input their information and keep it current.

The OCCA promotes the site coastarts.org and the site is quickly found on the Internet. The site has a built-in refined search capability to allow anyone to find the art resource quickly and timely. If you are an artist, performer, or event coordinator for art events on the coast, you will have a special ability to submit the content of your listings at this site easily online anytime at will.

OCCA's CAN DO Outreach and Education Representative (OER), Ernest Brown, conducts these free learning sessions. Pre-registration is required as space is limited.  If you have a laptop or tablet computer, please bring it to the session; however it is not a requirement for participation.

The learning session is being offered at the Umpqua Discovery Center in Reedsport on Tuesday, November 4th, from 1 pm to 3 pm.

To register for a free training, please call Ernest Brown at 541-574-2650 or email him at occa-can_do@coastarts.org.

OCCA is the "go to" source for information on the Arts of the Oregon Coast.
