7th Annual Reedsport Education Enrichment Foundation (REEF) Recognition Dinner
Saturday, March 1
social hour beginning at 5:30 pm and dinner at 6:30 pm
Salmon Harbor Marina Activity Center (MAC)
Julie Huebner 271-2146 or jhuebner@fullhartinsurance.com
Carter DuVal, 2006 Reedsport High School Graduate will be the featured speaker at the 7th Annual Reedsport Education Enrichment Foundation (REEF) Recognition Dinner on Saturday, March 1.  This year's dinner will honor community members that have donated time, money and expertise to help maintain academic programs in the Reedsport School District.
Carter is currently pursuing his Master's degree in oceanography at the University of Delaware and has been accepted to return for the doctoral program.  He specializes in using underwater robotics to find and study shipwrecks and underwater debris.  Among other accomplishments, Carter has participated with Dr. Robert Ballard's team, of Titanic discovery fame, in underwater deep sea surveys of the Black Sea, explored the Aegean Sea for ancient shipwrecks, and identified a previously unknown shipwreck off the coast of Delaware.
The REEF Dinner will take place at the Salmon Harbor Marina Activity Center (MAC) with social hour beginning at 5:30 pm and dinner at 6:30 pm. Tickets for this event are $40 each and must be purchased in advance.   Available tickets are limited.  This is a fundraising event and all money goes back to academic programs in the Reedsport School District.  Silent auction items will also be available.
Tickets for this year's dinner can be obtained at Fullhart Insurance from Julie Huebner 271-2146 or jhuebner@fullhartinsurance.com.
REEF was established in the year 2000 by a group of community members and parents concerned about the academic well-being of Reedsport youth.  Due to the continued reductions in school funding in Oregon (and 2014 will be no better), the Reedsport School District has been unable to offer a variety of educational activities and opportunities as it once did.  REEF's mission is to procure funds for academic activities that students would otherwise be unable to enjoy and to provide scholarship opportunities to current Reedsport Community Charter School students and to alumni who are pursuing further education.    Since 2000, REEF has been able to raise $260,119.43 for the District.

"The XXI century will be a century either of total all-embracing crisis or of moral and spiritual healing that will reinvigorate humankind. It is my conviction that all of us - all reasonable political leaders, all spiritual and ideological movements, all  faiths - must help in this transition to a triumph of humanism and justice."  David Keirsey
A guy goes to visit his friend and their sitting out on the front porch when the friends hound dog lifts up his head and lets out a long pitiful howl. After a moment the dog puts his head back down and goes back to sleep. They start talking again and once again the dog lifts his head howls and goes back to sleep. This happens a couple more times until the guy finally has to ask his friend,
"What's going on with your dog?"
"Oh, he's laying on a nail."
"Well why doesn't he move then?"
"Oh it doesn't hurt bad enough to move just enough to complain about it."-author unknown
