WHEN: August 21st Tuesday 6:00pm
WHERE: Winchester Bay Community Center
COST: Free
Do you have questions on the impact of the Japanese Tsunami Debris heading toward our coast? Lots of questions have been asked about radiation effects, what kind of debris will be coming to our shores, will it continue to arrive, what do I do if I find personal items, will the abundance of trash litter our beaches, who pays for the cleanup?
Also there will be a short presentation by Dorie Smith of SHELF RELIANCE, a program of emergency preparedness food with a tasting. Shelf Reliance through their THRIVE products offers the tools you'll need to create a comprehensive, customized emergency preparedness plan.
Reports are that the food is excellent.
On Tuesday, August 21st at 6:00pm there will be a public forum headed by Robert Smith, the Coastal Response Coordinator of the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department to discuss the issues, answer your questions and let you know how you can assist.
The meeting will be held at the Winchester Bay Community Center at 635 Broadway in Winchester Bay. There will be apple pie and cheddar cheese for all. Sponsored by the Winchester Bay Merchants, KDUNE, CERT and The Friends of Winchester Bay.

REEDSPORT The Bill Humphreys Memorial Golf Tournament will take place on Sunday, September 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Reedsport's Forest Hills Country Club. The annual event benefits high school and junior golf programs in Reedsport, and is largely responsible for the continued existence of these programs.
Event coordinator Mark Bedard, a 1976 Reedsport High School graduate and life-long Reedsport resident, invites all area golfers to participate. "The Humphreys event is a fun time for everyone. We hope to see golfers of all skill levels," said Bedard. "The scramble format makes it fun for everyone. It's a good time with good people, on what is truly the most beautiful gem of Reedsport our very own Forest Hills course."
Bill Humphreys was a member of the first golf team at RHS in the early 1960s, and went on to become a respected local banker, helping to finance Reedsport's growth for three decades. He was also a charter member of both Forest Hills, and the Reedsport Braves Boosters. This is the 18th year for the memorial event, which was begun by former RHS educators and golf coaches Jim and Mary Ann Wells. With their recent retirement from coaching, the event is now being conducted by the Braves Boosters Association.
"Jim and Mary Ann have been fantastic stewards of this event for many years," said Joe Zelinski, of the Braves Boosters. "We cannot thank them enough for their contribution to youth golf in our community. We hope to continue this important event for years to come."
The event features scramble (best ball) teams of approximately six people, with a shotgun start (all teams starting at the same time, on a different hole.) Entry fee is $30, which includes a post-match meal service. Chances for raffle prizes including golf outings at regional courses will also be available for purchase. Full or partial teams, or individuals, are asked to sign-up in advance, by contacting Bedard at 541-662-0543, or by e-mailing golf@bravesboosters.com. It is not necessary to pre-register at the golf course.
Team sponsorships are also available for $100. Team sponsorship includes one complimentary participant, and recognition and signage at the event.

"Go into the arts. I'm not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something." -- Kurt Vonnegut
