The Marines Are Coming To Reedsport/Winchester Bay
The Community is inivited to welcome the Marines when they arrive by bus into Reedsport at 4:00 on Saturday, May 28th with a Community Gathering Of Support and Fan Fare.  Join the gathering on Highway 101 in front of the Price N Pride and Safeway Parking lots to welcome the Marines to town.  Bring out the flags and banners to show our community support for the 29 Palms Marine Corps Band’s return trip to Reedsport.
Thanks to all that support, contribute and volunteer to bring the 29 Palms Marine Corps Band to Reedsport. The Marine Band will visit Reedsport over Memorial Day Weekend and will participate in the Memorial Day Celebration and Parade.  Sunday, May 29th the public is invited to a greet and meet.  Meet the 29 Palms Marine Corps Band and the Parachute Team at a community BBQ at the United Presbyterian Church adjacent to Reedsport High School starting at 4:00pm hosted by the Military Order of the Purple Heart.  The BBQ will be followed by a free concert at 7:00pm in the Pacific Auditorium featuring the Marine Corps Band.  Free tickets are required due to limited seating and are available at Umpqua Bank, Bank of America, and the Chamber Office.  Help support the Celebration by Adopting A Marine.
ADOPT-A-MARINE is a Memorial Day Celebration donation program that enables you to Adopt-A-Marine to help support the patriotic recognition of this honorable holiday. The donations help offset the costs of the Memorial Day Celebration and the cost of transportation and lodging for the 29 Palms Marine Corps Band, and the Parachute Team. Donations can be made at the Umpqua Bank, Bank of America, or The Chamber of Commerce Office.
Join in the Memorial Day Parade through downtown Reedsport on Monday, May 30th at noon.  Businesses, Civic Organizations, and all individuals are invited and encouraged to participate in the parade.  Entry forms are available at the Chamber Office.
Following the parade at 1:30pm at Hahn Memorial Park a Memorial Service will begin featuring the 29 Palms Marine Corps Band, the Parachute Team, aircraft fly-bys, performance by the Highland Elementary School students, and more. 
Tuesday, May 31st  will be a “DAY IN WINCHESTER BAY”.  Two free concerts will be performed by the 29 Palms Marine Corps Band.  One performance will be at noon at Phillip Boe Memorial Park and one at 6:00pm in front of the Sportsmen’s Cannery & Smokehouse with their infamous Seafood BBQ being offered.

Coos Bay Public Library offers ExplOREGON, an opportunity to learn about economical vacation opportunities right here in Oregon on Thursday, May 26th at 7:00 p.m. Budget-conscious Oregonians are fortunate to have a rich variety of possible getaways within easy reach. Staff from Travel Oregon will present options for traveling to lesser-known Oregon destinations that may not come to mind when planning a vacation.  Scott West and Carole Astley will offer their thoughts on interesting locations for travel in Oregon. 
A Marshfield grad, Scott West has been Travel Oregon’s Chief Strategy Officer for the past five years.  He is particularly familiar with the South Coast and NE Oregon, where his family has continuously farmed on land near Echo, through which the Oregon Trail crosses.
Carole Astley has been Travel Oregon’s Industry Relations Manager for 5 years, and is particularly fond of finding budget- and family-friendly Oregon travel destinations.  She has had the pleasure of traveling throughout Oregon to manage the nine State Welcome Centers, among her many other visitor industry-related responsibilities.

First Friday . . . Art for Everyone is a FREE EVENT.  CDABA sponsors the First Friday art events at a different location each month.  Future dates will be June 3rd – Reedsport Natural Foods featuring paintings by George McNair; July 1st - Myrtlewood Gallery featuring miniature carvings by Kimberly King; August 5th - Reedsport Natural Foods featuring handmade hunting bows by Norm Johnson and vessels by Garth Mast and Bill Karcher; September 2nd – CDABA Art Auction at the Winchester Bay Community Center; October 7th - Reedsport Natural Foods - a memorial show for Jack Adams; November 4th - Lower Umpqua Hospital featuring paintings by Christine Davis; and December 2nd - First Friday, Reedsport Natural Foods and 2nd Anniversary Celebration at Coastal Ceramics and Ocean Breeze Flowers & Gifts.
CDABA’s second annual Art Walk will be held on Friday, June 17th from 5 pm to 7 pm in old down town Reedsport along Highway 38.   Open locations in old down town will include the Mindpower Gallery and the Orca Gallery, each with several guest artists.  There are also plans to have sidewalk artists between the two galleries.  The Myrtlewood Gallery, located at 1125 Highway 101, will be joining this year’s Art Walk and will also be open between 5 pm and 7 pm.  
CDABA will be hosting its second annual Art Auction on Friday, September 2nd in conjunction with Art by the Bay in Winchester Bay.  Artists and owners of art can commission their pieces to be sold.  The artists / owner will establish a minimum price for their piece and will retain eighty percent of its selling price.  Art that does not sell is retained by the owner.  Limit two pieces per person.  CDABA will also accept pieces as a donation to CDABA to help support its community programs.  Anyone interested in making a tax deductible contribution can obtain more information by contacting Tamara Szalewski (541-271-2485) or Kathleen Miller (541-271-2101).
