The Dunes Art Club of Reedsport would like to extend an invitation to our open house on Monday, October 19th at 10am at the Reedsport Senior Center. 

   Club members will be painting and will display their art in watercolor, acrylic, oil and sculpture.  We welcome all levels of talent from beginners to professionals.

   We gather every Monday to paint, encourage each other, critique our work and socialize, and would like to invite you to join our group. For more information please contact Beebe at 587-4430.

WHAT:  Confluence Kick Off Meeting
WHERE:  Bedrock's Pizzeria, Reedsport

Confluence 2010, winner of "The Best New Festival or Event" for the State of Oregon will be holding it's kickoff meeting Tuesday Oct. 13th at 4 pm at Bedrock's Pizzeria, Reedsport. 
 
Confluence meetings are once a month for October, November and December, then bi-weekly in January and weekly the first two weeks of February. The first meeting will be to go over any needed changes to the event, 2010 budget, lineup band prospects and delegate sub committees.

 WHAT:  Toastmasters International Area 34 Clubs Fall Contests to be Held Thursday October 8th
WHERE:  Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue Station on 26th and Hwy 101 in Florence
WHEN:     Thursday October 8th at 6:30
WHO:  Toastmasters International Area 34 Clubs
 
The top winners from each club contest will compete at the Area 34 contests on Thursday October 8th at 6:30 pm at the Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue Station on 26th and Hwy 101 in Florence.  Clubs will compete in the Humorous Speech contest and in the Table Topics contest to determine who will represent Area 34 at the next level, the Central Division contests.
 
The purpose of the humorous speech contest is to provide an opportunity for speakers to improve their speaking abilities, to recognize the best as encouragement to all, and to recognize the value of humor in speaking. Each speaker will deliver an original humorous five to seven minute speech. Judges will evaluate and assign points for speech development, effectiveness, value, audience response, physical appearance, voice, manner, appropriateness and correctness.
 
Amy Olson, one of the humorous speech contest winners from Reedsport's Coast Toasties club, plans to compete in Florence.
 
The purpose of the Table Topics speech contest is to encourage development of impromptu and or extemporaneous speaking skills and to recognize the best as encouragement to all. Each contestant shall receive the same topic, which shall be of a general nature, and shall speak for two minutes. Judges will evaluate and assign points for speech development, effectiveness, physical appearance, voice and language.
 
Following the contests, the first and second place winners will be announced. The winners will then be eligible to move up to the next level of competition and compete in the Central Division Contest in Eugene on October 24th.
 
The public is invited to attend and to enjoy an evening of easy listening and humorous speeches on a variety of interesting topics. Refreshments will be served following the speech contests.
