Art, crafts, cooking and business related classes are all welcome additions to this program.
Three different types of classes are set up to encourage as much participation as possible.

$10 Tuesday is a bit more involved and may include a small hands on project.
Full hands on classes are another form of class Art Academy offers. The instructor sets the fee's for these.
For a minimal fee CDABA handles the advertising, provides a location, and assists with registrations for all three types of classes.

Thunderwater 3000!
Thunderwater 3000 is a fitness challenge food drive hosted by the crew of Coast Guard Station Coos Bay. For every canned food item donated between September 1, 2013 and November 20, 2013, a Coastie will run, bike, or swim one mile. All donations will support the South Coast Food Share. Donation sites include Charleston Fire Station, Coast Guard Exchange, Englund Marine – Charleston, First Community Credit Union – Lakeside and North Bend, Pony Village Cinema, Safeway – North Bend, Station Coos Bay, Tower Ford, and Y Marina.
South Coast Food Share is a program of Oregon Coast Community Action, a non-profit network of programs that help feed, house, warm and educate the communities of the South Coast, and help families thrive.

It's not too early to start planning your costume for the CDABA Fall Gala!! Need some ideas? We have some CDABA volunteers that are more than happy to help you with a few suggestions and keep it confidential! Some members have plenty of props too, so if you are missing a part or piece, don't be shy to ask. Also, if you or someone you know would like to compete in the table decorating contest, now is the time to secure your competition table! (If you just want to help, don't worry there are plenty of other tables that need decorating that are not part of the competition)Call Tamara for details at (541) 271-2485

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION  #5 of 6
SUBJECT:  Name Change of the West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center to National Tsunami Warning Center Effective October 1, 2013
Effective October 1, 2013, the NWS West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center (WC/ATWC) will be known as the National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC). The only change to the NTWC product suite will be the Center's name in the Mass News Disseminator (MND) Header. All AWIPS and WMO identifiers will remain the same. The Center's current URL will continue to function:
A new URL also will link to the same site on or before October 1.
The present issuing office line in the MND header is:
NWS WEST COAST/ALASKA TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER PALMER AK
After the change, the issuing office line in the MND header will be:
NWS NATIONAL TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER PALMER AK
The new name is intended to better identify the Center's area-of-responsibility, which is the ocean coasts of all states except Hawaii as well as Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and Canada.  The new change will help mitigate confusion caused by the former name which did not did not reflect the area of responsibility.

Free Earthquake Forum for public officials, responders, schools, and anyone with a role in response to an earthquake
September 23, 2013
4:00 pm to 5:30 pm
Public Safety Building
700 SE Douglas Avenue
Roseburg, OR 97470
The Cascadia Subduction Zone is similar in size and shape as the subduction zone that triggered the 2004 tsunami. The last known earthquake on the Cascadia Subduction Zone happened on January 26, 1700. The geologic record reveals 41 of these megathrust earthquakes over the last 10,000 years. They have happened repeatedly in the past, and will happen again. We just don't know when. Your residents and visitors will be counting on continuity of civic services that will be severely strained during such a large-scale event.
Who should attend this Forum?
Anyone in your county that is involved in decision-making during an earthquake event. This could be warning point coordinators, public officials, school administrators, first responders and public information officers. It is important to bring together as many of those who will need this updated information and will play a role in the next earthquake response effort.
