Labor Day Weekend as a part of the Art by the Bay events.
This year's September First Friday and Art Auction has a change of date. Once again CDABA's annual Art Auction will coincide with the Art by the Bay Labor Day weekend. There will also be a new format and new events added to the eventsee below.
Call for Entries: New & Secondary Art Auction
CDABA is hosting its annual Art Auction over the Labor Day weekend. This year the event will have a preview day, followed by an auction the following day. This format will give more people an opportunity to see the works of art while participating in the Art by the Bay events. The art auction will be held at the Winchester Bay Community Center. Artists. Everyone is invited to enter pieces of art into the Auction. There is a limit of two pieces per person. The Auction is limited to 50 pieces. First come, first registered. Fees and Commission: $5.00 non-refundable registration fee per item and 20% commission on artwork sold. The $5.00 entry fee is due with the delivery of artwork to be auctioned. The entry fee for artwork sold will be deducted from the 20% commission charged (minimum commission - $5.00).
CDABA is once again also accepting pieces of art as a donation to CDABA to benefit its various art events, including First Friday, Art Walk, and others.
New to the event this year will be an Artist Trade Fair. Artists who are interested in participating by having a booth to sell or trade their excess art supplies are invited to call Tamara Szalewski at 541-271-2485 to learn more about securing a booth space.

First Friday to Local Authors a different kind of art
Friday, August 3rd is the next First Friday . . . Art for Everyone event. First Friday will be held at the Reedsport Natural Foods, 1891 Winchester Avenue (Hwy 101), Reedsport, OR, between 5-7 pm and will feature a different kind of art: Local Authors. Local Authors to be featured include:
Sherri Elliott: The EEeee's and Me: The Decorah Bald Eagles, a Love Story. A self- confessed Eagleholic, Sherri documents the daily life in the Decorah, Iowa Bald Eagle nest during the 2011 season. Written in a witty and whimsical style from her journal, beginning with the first egg laid in February through the final successful fledge by early August, the family known as "The EEeees" captured global internet attention. Along the way the reader learns about parental devotion, nurturing, duty, patience, trust, perseverance, and love.
Jim Akre: Reedsport: Image of America Series. In this volume (collaborating with the Umpqua Discovery Center and the Douglas County Museum) Jim Akre has selected vintage photographs doing justice to the historical development of the Reedsport community.
Thomas W. Prater: Echo Five Papa: Hill 10. Published in 2002, a young Lakeside boy learns too quickly the realities of the Vietnam War and fights both the external enemy and internal life struggles to find the bond of friendship and family.
AlsoLocal Ceramics Class members will feature their ceramic pieces. Look for Lou Mohlman, Betty Morgan, LaJoy Parent and other members of the Thursday class (meets at Senior Center every Thursday at 1 pm) to display their ceramic pieces and learn more about the weekly class.
CDABA sponsors the First Friday art events (free to attend) at different locations. Future Dates: Labor Day WeekendAnnual Art Auction & Artist Trade Fari (Winchester Bay Community Center), October 5th (Reedsport Natural Food store-Artist-Chris Lechuga), November 2nd (Lower Umpqua Hospital-Fabric Art), and December 7th (Anniversary Celebration).
