Bring your family and friends and come enjoy the fun and excitement as The GUILD presents the first annual ROCK~N~ART festival on Saturday, May 21 from noon til 9:00pm at the Green Spot, 181 Anderson St in Coos Bay.

Festivities include live local bands and poetry readings including The GUILD youth; art display and sales, local craft vendors, plant sale, food, raffles and drawings, FREE activities for kids and a beer and wine garden for adults.

ORCO Arts GUILD is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth to positively express themselves through music, art and poetry, develop leadership skills and make a difference through community service.  We meet weekly on THURSDAYS from 3:00 – 6:00pm at Unity by the Bay, 2100 Union Street in North Bend (entrance in back).  All high school aged youth are welcome to come and engage in supervised music and art activities FREE of charge.

WHAT:  Memorial Day Parade and Celebration: The Marines Are Coming
WHERE:  Reedsport, Oregon

The Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce is presenting A Memorial Day Parade and Celebration on Sunday, May 30th – Tuesday, May 31st.  Sunday, May 29th a free concert will be held at 7:00pm in the Pacific Auditorium at Reedsport Charter School featuring the 29 Palms Marine Corps Band.  Free tickets are required and are available at Umpqua Bank, Bank of America and the Chamber Office.  The public is invited to meet The Marine Corps Band at a community BBQ at the Presbyterian Church before the concert starting at 4:00pm.
A parade, organized by the Reedsport Rotary, will begin at noon down Highway 38 through downtown Reedsport.  The parade will featuring Veteran Organizations, Show Cars, Military Color Guards, Clowns and The Reedsport High School Prom Court.  Also, featured in the parade will be the Parade’s Grand Marshall, Miss Oregon, Stephenie Steers, and the Mayor of Reedsport, Keith Tymchuk.  The community is honored and privileged to have The 29 Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Band marching in the parade.
The Memorial Day Parade is open for entries so sign-up and be part of the Memorial Day Parade & Celebration Honoring Veterans, “Past, Present and Future” Monday, May 30th at noon.  Businesses, Civic Organizations, and Individuals are invited and encouraged to participate in the parade.  Entry forms are available at the Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of  Commerce Office or online at http://www.reedsportcc.org/pages/events/memorial_day.php
Following the parade, a BBQ will be offered by the Gardiner-Reedsport Lions Club, and a Memorial Service will be held at Hahn Memorial Park.  The Memorial Service is honored to have the presence of: the members of the World War II Oregon LST Organization, Veterans Past, Present and Future, the Color Guard from the US Coast Guard Station Umpqua River, Fly Over’s by F-15’s of the US Air Force 142nd Fighter Wing, A WWII Stearman Bi-Plane piloted by Sam Spayed, performances by the Marine Corps Band, and the highlight of the celebration, Jamie Lynn jumping into the celebration with a 35ft X 65ft American Flag.  The 29 Palms Marine Corps Band will perform during the Memorial Service along with a performance by the Students of Highland Elementary School.
The 29 Palms Marine Corps Band will spend Tuesday in Winchester Bay with two free performances - noon Phillip Boe Memorial Park, and at 6:00pm in front of the Sportsmen’s Cannery on Bay Front Loop.

The May meeting for the Caregivers of Alzheimer’s and Dementia group will be this Friday, May 13, at 10:30.  This month’s meeting will cover the dangers of diet and dehydration.  Everyone is welcome!

A benefit bowling night will be hosted by the Reedsport Lanes on Friday the 20th at 7:00pm with proceeds to go to Christmas in July.  Cost is $20.00/team of 4 and $5.00 for each additional member.  Signup by Sunday May 15 at the Reedsport Lanes of Reedsport Church of God.  There will be prizes for High and Low score and many more.  Please join up and help sponsor Christmas in July.

Rural Development Initiatives (RDI) is pleased to announce that the Whipple Foundation Fund will be sponsoring scholarships for Douglas County residents to attend Regards to Rural 2011, Friday and Saturday, June 24-25 at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.
The economic downturn in America has especially hit rural communities hard.  RDI's largest networking event, Regards to Rural 2011 Conference is a gathering to inform, inspire, and celebrate .... all that is rural!  Now in its seventh rendition, Regards to Rural 2011 will provide important knowledge, resources and networking to aid communities and bring economic vitality to Oregon. The Whipple Foundation Fund sponsorship will allow RDI to offer 14-16 scholarships specifically for attendees in Douglas County.
Full scholarships are available to those who would benefit from Regards to Rural 2011 but financially would not be able to attend.  Full scholarships will cover the entire cost of the registration fee; recipients are not required to contribute towards the registration fee of $199. Scholarships include keynote presentations, 40+ sessions, workshops, and panel discussions, meals, and conference materials provided at Regards to Rural 2011 for Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25, 2011. Please note: scholarship recipients are responsible for their lodging and travel expenses.
