PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION  #4 of 9

Who: Old Towne Reedsport Merchant Association
What:  2010 Old Towne Hanging Basket Project Progress
Where:  Downtown and Safeway Shopping Center
When:  Summer 2010

The Old Towne Reedsport Merchant Association wrapped up it's fund raising for the 2010 Hanging Basket Project this week.  It also is finishing hanging the baskets downtown in time for the Chain Saw Event.  In total, over $3,100. was raised for the purchase of plants, soil, fertilizer and the materials needed to install the automatic watering system.  There were two basket planting sessions held and the volunteers who showed up to do the planting were so fast that it only took a couple of hours to complete. Reedsport now has 74 beautiful hanging baskets downtown and in the Safeway shopping center.  Way to Go!!

The community really "stepped up" with generous donations. We want to remember and thank our Corporate Sponsors:  Central Lincoln PUD, Lower Umpqua Economic Development Forum, Umpqua Soil and Water Conservation, Lower Umpqua Community Center, and the Reedsport Rotary.  A big Thank You to our newly acquired businesses:  Reedsport Pharmacy, Subway, Reedsport Liquor Store.  Their participation in allowing us to display our baskets outside their places of business is an honor.  There were cash donations from people in the communities of Gardner, Reedsport, Winchester Bay, and Lakeside too.  Thank you.  The Chamber of Commerce supplied us with a tent to protect the planters and the plants from the ever-changing weather. Our local radio station KDUNE gave us air time to get the word out.  And, thanks to all the people "behind the scenes" who helped get the word out and supported OTRMA's efforts in this project.

Thanks to all of you.  OTRMA couldn't have done it without all your generous help.  We really are blessed to live in a community that cares about worthwhile projects like this one.
