WHAT: Overdue Fines are Back
WHERE: Reedsport Branch Library
WHEN: Beginning July 1, 2010
Contact: Library Staff @ 541-271-3500
Library overdue fines are back. For two years, the Douglas County Library System has not charged overdue fines for late materials. Continuing budget cuts have made charging late fees necessary. Beginning with materials checked out or renewed July 1, 2010, fines will be charged for materials kept past the due date. The fines will be as follows:
Overdue 1-7 days, 50¢ per item
· Overdue 8-14 days, $1.00 per item (50¢ more)
· Overdue more than 14 days, $2.00 per item ($1.00 more)
The maximum overdue fine per item is $2.00
"As our resources shrink, we have to limit our services," according to Library Director Max Leek. "Overdue fines allow us to increase our revenues slightly, and they encourage people to keep library materials circulating." The cost of replacing a lost card is also going up, from $1.50 to $3.00, and the number of times loans may be renewed is being reduced from three times to two. All changes go into effect with the new fiscal year on July 1, 2010. Visit the library website http://dclibrary.us for more information.
Tips to Avoid Overdue Fines
Keep track of due dates. Save the slip you receive at checkout that shows the due dates. Visit your online account anytime to see a list of items checked out to your card, including due dates. Or ask staff in person or by phone.
Sign up for e-mail notices. This courtesy service provides an advance reminder of upcoming due dates. Sign up at any Douglas County Library System location.
Renew loans before the due date. Most items may be renewed up to two times, if no one has placed a hold request.
Return items to the most convenient DCLS location, regardless of where you borrowed it.

Please plan to come to St. John's Catholic Church at 7:30 a:m July 10th for a great breakfast put on by church volunteers and begin work on the 5th year of Christmas in July. Home repair locations will be given to volunteers at this time. You will join good people and make new friends while helping others as outlined in the Mission Statement on the website cij.weebly.com.
A good lunch will be served at 12 noon by volunteers at the United Presbyterian Church at 2360 Longwood Drive.
We need helpers, and volunteer forms can be picked up at the above locations or downloaded from the website. Forms are also available at the two banks and the Saving & Loan all in Reedsport. It is helpful if we get the completed forms before the work date but forms can be filled out on the work morning. We have plenty of work scheduled and assignments will be given out at this time. Please wear works clothes, bring work gloves and basic tools such as hammers, shovels paint brushes etc.
Reedsport is a community that cares for other people. This has been evidenced by the support we have had for this program in prior years. We hope to have you join us on July 10th and we sincerely thank you.
